Heres a problem i have been putting up with for weeks now. I should really get it sorted.

After starting the car the power steering usually goes off after a few minuits then a few minuits later the hicas light usually comes on. If I turn off the ignition and restart everythings fine again for a little while then it goes again.

The speedo is working fine so It cant be the speedo sensor thats bucked.

any suggestions?

Jap or UK? Manual or Auto? (Coz I can't remember!)

 

If it's Jap, does it have a speedo convertor? These can go bad and/or interfere with the ECU speed signals independantly of the speedo (mine did. Speedo was fine, PS/auto box played up though, and an auto diag showed speed sensor failure). So might be worth unwiring a convertor to see if the problem goes away.

Is it true if you buy a Jap car and you just change the speedo, IE the mechanics on the dial, that it will convert it?

 

I am sure that it works. I know people spend loads on the converter, wouldnt it be cheaper to just by the UK speed dial?

You can just put an MPH face on the Jap clocks. But most Jap clocks run 0-180kph, making your top speed 112Mph.. A little poor.. And your odometer is still in Km's

 

My clocks run 0-300kph, but I'd still be limited to 112Mph.

 

Or you can put UK clocks in, yes, that way you get a UK speedo (0-180Mph, or 0-160Mph for US clocks) and an odometer in miles.

But you're still limited to 112Mph, because that's governed by the ECU.

 

However, UK spec dials are like gold dust, and command a premium.

Its jap manual and I put a 300kmh clock in a few weeks ago but it was alright for a bit after that
