ok yesterday i thought i would check to see if my car is burning oil.

 

the dipstick was really hard to get in and out of tube which was odd but it bone dry................. so then i panicked that my car suddenly ate all its oil.

 

Well today i filled up around 4 litres of oil and the dipstick was still dry. gently took car around corner to warm it up and it was still dry

 

noticed oil dripping out underneath car so i think i have overfilled car and dipstick pipe is broken as it wobbles a bit.

 

i am a bit happier that i could have not burned much oil previously but obviously i need to re fit dipstick tube and drain all the oil.

 

How hard is it to get the dipstick tube back in the block?

First thing first mate, you gotta sort how much oil is in there.

If yer engine was so short on oil that 4 litres didn't completly overfill it, it would have been rattling it's tits off!

 

So drain completly and fill with just under 4 litres if not changing the filter, 4 litres if you are.

Whilst under there you can get a good butchers at the dip stick tube and see whats what.

if the tube has come out of the block and your car is a tt then good luck mate. these are a right pain in the ass to get back in the block from my experiance. they bend around the turbo and manifold and it will take much bending and swearing to re-fit

 

no they don't. it travels up the block and sits between the manifold inlets.

 

to get it back in (provided there is no damage to the tube or block, knocking with a rubber or raw hide mallet onto a pair of decent pliers lightly gripping the tube just above the mating flange will ease it back into the hole.

be patient and it will re-seat as it is a tight old fit.

also i have black soot from the exhaust on start up that goes on the floor lol. looks like i got black chalk and put shavings on the ground. whats that?
