Ok folks...I need to pull my finger out and get myself a new clutch. Have been putting it off til my existing clutch is properly knackered and it's almost there now so...

...I have an RPS Max Street at the moment as recommended by most on this forum. However...for a variety of possible reasons, it's knackered (within a year!). It's been looked at by a few very trusted mechanics and the conclusion is that I need a new one.

Now...my issue is that I'm a little apprehensive of getting another RPS Max Street as it has to come from the US and as such, if anything goes wrong with it, I'm pretty much dead in the water!

So, I thought I'd post up on here to see if anyone can recommend any suitable alternative that I can source form the UK that can handle similar power (500fwhp +) and costs in the same ball park??

I'd also probably look to get a new lightened RPS fly wheel as my Fidanza one is pretty knackered too...

Cheers folks!

So has your box been off and then diagnosed as a knackered unit and flywheel?

If not when the box is off you might see whats what, in any event just replace the disc as it's a lot cheaper.

Box hasn't been off no as it's such a laborious job but having had it looked by Zedworld, Jimmer and Silverbullet, the conclusion was that it is knackered.

I accept it may be cheaper but as I don't know exactly what is wrong (it just slips under boost a LOT and even sometimes under hard accel off boost) I'm in the frame of mind where I just want to get rid of what is in there now and just get a new setup. I got this clutch put in following my engine rebuild and manual conversion and have yet to really test the car as the clutch started failing pretty soon after!

RPS yes, Fidanza no...that's been on for god knows how long but apparently it's seen much better days!

I have no idea about the oil leakage but I would assume so, as you say...

vig you comin to the pirbright meet on sunday? bout time we met... jimmer you should get ur ass over there too... prolly less of a trip for you than it is for me! looks to be a big turnout

didn't even know about it mate...what time? I'll do my best but clutch is being a nightmare so no promises....haven't driven the car in almost 3weeks as it's just not fun anymore

No recommendations on any clutches then??

can you get rps plates?

ive got a mint cover but the friction plate has seen better days

No idea mate...the only place I know of that I can get RPS clutch (parts) from is Z1 in the US.

So does everyone on the forum only use RPS?? Surely there must be people using other clutches in this price bracket that can handle the power??

No recommendations?

give danny a call... he will sell you a raplacement friction plate

Can i be sure that this is the problem though or will I end up under the car and realising I need more parts??

I know its more expensive and probably more hassle but for peace of mind more than anything, I really want shut of the whole clutch I have right now and get a new one in....if that makes sense?

Cheers for the replies though Joely...appreciate your time and advice...

where does the clutch bite? high up or quiet low down? is there any play at the top Vig? Just curious. Clutch can wear out pretty quickly if its not adjusted correctly.

I pretty much tore up my max clutch at santa pod but it was worth it :)

As Paul/Smithy has already tried to tell you nothing is "sure" until you have the g.box off and remove the clutch.

If your flywheel was badly scored before then this could prevent the clutch holding more power.

You might of course just have to accept the fact that a single organic plate(no matter how good) will not hold the power you are making under aggressive driving.

In which case you will need to be looking at other/more expensive options.

Agreed bud...which is why I'm looking to get a clutch AND flywheel together...just looking for any potential options/recommendations that I can source more locally (not the US) and are within the same price range.

Surprising that it's so difficult to get any recommendations tbh...even if it is that everyone with big power is either running setups outside my price range or are all using RPS Max Street...at least that will whittle down my options....

Just out of interest what power and torque are you making???

RPS max should be fine for what he is running.
