Just thought I would let you all know that yesterday (Sunday) I wrote my Z off. The classic of it being wet and losing it's back end in an awful way. It spun and hit a lamppost sideways making my car like a banana, the rear axle is bent and so is the chassis. Unfortunately on top of this I had all 3 kids in the car with me but fortunately they are all OK. Only thing I would say is after having mine for such a short period is, please be careful of those back ends in the wet, I know they are famous for it but the fact that I was lucky and could of lost my children yesterday brought it all sharply home to me. Anyway guys, I wont be getting another so all the best to you and sorry for the late retraction on me going to Brighton this sunday and I hope it all works out really well for you all.

cheers for all your help and advice and be careful

Dan Frith (signing off) very sadly

Dan,

Sorry to hear about the loss of your Z. Glad to hear though that everyone is OK.

Maybe we will see you back here again as a Z owner, you never know.

All the best mate,

How about a group buy for traction control ? I've been considering it for a while now. Sorry it's a bit late for Dan though :-(

Very sorry to hear about that M8.

Glad to hear you and the kids are ok. I hope this has not put you off Zeds forever!.

seez ya.

Andy,

How much would we be looking at for a group buy on traction control?

I think it's a top idea and would save us all a lot of heartache in the long run.

Let me know and everyone else!!

Matty.

Ah my idea, so I guess I've been nominated to find out. I'll let y'all know ....

sorry bout that m8.......being the mercanary that i am will you be selling the car or breaking it

Andy,

I think for myself (and my wallet) The basic on/off system sounds good to me, It will do the job I require.....Stop me sliding round corners!

Once system is installed I suppose you could upgrade if you felt it was needed.

I'm in for the Basic System.

Anyone else?

Sorry to hear about that Dan, at least you and your kids are ok.

Dave

Glad everybody is okay Dan.

I have been think about Traction Control, and please count me in.

I guess the basic will suffice, but I think a few members have gone for the adjustable option? It would be good to have their input and recommendation perhaps?

Thanks, Geoff

Dan,

The main thing is your kids and you have got your health and thats all that matters, the rest is just metal.

All the best to you and your kids getting over this bad experience.

sorry about your car.

good news that you and the family were unhurt though, which is far more important.

my driving style is completely different when i have my kids in the car, having had a couple of scares without them....

Sorry to hear about your car Dan, glad that you and the kids are OK.

Going on your previous posts I reckon that you have only had your Z for about 7 weeks.

I also noticed that on a previous post you spun it in the wet. Don't mean to be a spoil sport but you should have been more careful or got more experience before driving in a way that you could spin in the wet with kids in the car. Like Craig said with kids in the car the driving style is completely different. I think you already that know.

Can't say that I find the car too much of a problem in the wet. No different to any other rear wheel drive car, just respect the power. Since changing to Eagle F1's they make a big difference in the wet.

Respect your power, respect your Z. (This rhymes with Ali G.)

Nuff said.

DAN,

Sorry to hear about your car mate, glad that you and the kids are OK though. Cars can be replaced with things like insurance but munchkins can't!

I understand where you are at the moment, when I had my car (for such a short period of time, forgotten what it looks like!) I had some nastey experienced in it. As everyone here has mentioned the power is quite a handful, I had a few spinning moments mostly coming off roundabouts plus problems with the back end flipping out due to the shocks.

Anyway, commiserations and take care.

Tim

;-(

Sorry to hear Dan, glad everyone is okay.

Trev.

Thanks for all the concern guys, you all made me feel really at home when I joined up. I might well get antoher Z some year but unfortunately, now I have lost my no claims (BTW, protect yours today) so it is going to be beyond expensive to insure another Z and to be honest, it scared the shit out of me the other day, I personally think that the Z is singularly one of the most stunning cars in existence but it is just a shame that they did not design it better for such situations, they put all the right stuff on the skylines so why not on the Z's ?? Anyway, I think you guys should buy traction control for your motors, I am still gutted but glad everyone is fine of course.

BTW, I might be buying the car back from the insuran e company to sell parts from it, anyone interested ??

thanks again

Dan

Racelogic say 20% discount for 5 or more, 25% for 10 or more. Got three so far, think of it as insurance that's fun !

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the loss of your car...Hope the kids are alright!

I have always thought that powerful rear drive cars are more suited to manual gearboxes, rather than an unpredictable Auto box.

I had a nasty moment a few years ago in a less powerful 280ZX, when my autobox kicked down coming off a wet roundabout, and threw me into a spin on a dual carriageway.

Obviously with a more powerful engine and turbo, the problem is made worse.

On a different note, did you ever sort out the vibration problem you had on your car, previous to the accident?

JEZ

In case it helps those considering buying the traction control, I've got adjustable and I played with different slip levels for a couple of months but, after that, I left the thing on zero slip as it gives a real saving on rear tyre wear. If I bought it again, I'd probably stick with basic on or off and save a few quid.

Dave

Sorry to hear about the loss.

I had some bad experiences when I first got my Z. Floored my auto in a straight line when the road looked dry after rain.

The back end flicked out and somehow I caught it but nearly put the car through a shop window. That really shit me up because I just was not expecting it at all. Like was said above, the auto's are far worse because sometimes the box drops a gear and the revs go sky high when you are just trying to slighty increase the power - it's all or nothing. After a couple of other minor slips I now drive slower than any other car on the road when it's wet. I'm usually up for a race with anyone but if it's rained I just have to forget it and cruise. Just looks like I'm playing it cool anyway!
