How long this thread will last who knows, someone get the stopwatch out

First off I would like to say this is not aimed at anyone, it is not a slanging match and would like it kept to just sensible comments and replies without it degrading into a mod slanging battle as that is far from what this thread is about.

I'd like to know why we are not allowed to mention or express opinions about banned members?

And I don’t mean making comment on if you feel their ban was right or wrong, just saying its a shame they are not here etc or even asking another member why they are no longer about, your jumped on by mods and told that kind of talk will get you into trouble.

Now the people being banned is the committee decision and final and that’s how it is, we accept that and respect their decision, completely fare enough.

But why on earth is the mere mention of any banned member’s name being treated as a hanging offence?

Now we have all seen the threads being dug up recently from "the good old days" and it can’t help to make you wonder if we are being a little too moderated these days purely because they "can" moderate a thread not because it needs it.

70% of the time if a (questionable) thread if left to run its course without comments or warnings from mods they end nicely and with no need for butting in, yet recently mods are jumping in with "Any more or this that or the other and your all in the sin bin" making a thread escalate where as if they said nothing it would have gone on quite happily for another page or two and then ended on its own without bad feeling being unduly caused.

Moderation is a very difficult subjective job, but is of course completely necessary, needed and even welcome.

I take my hat off to those who do it as it not easy. But I really do think its time for a sit down and rethink on what really denotes a thread in need of moderation or not.

I say this with the good of the club and it's existing and future member in mind not as a random rant.

I hope I’ve not pissed off too many people by posting it, and that it stays open and is taken in the meaning of it being written and without reading between the lines as there is nothing to read there.

Nick

I think Si was like Marmite to many people on here because of how he was!

I didnt really know him but got on well on here with him, I personally think it is a shame what happened but I can also see that how he was at times caused his demise on here! If he has had fair warning & decided not to act then that is sadly down to him.

He was quite a character & added a lot of fun on the forum to many (& a lot of s**t too  )

Mods do a great job on here & there is always more to these things than you would think!

Like times before when these things have happened the world & this forum will go on just fine!

very wise words, its posts like this that makes this place what it is, its very genuine and has no hidden agenda towards anyone or anything

Dont want you to go into detail of any indervidual case. I mean a brauder spectrum that trying to talk amung ourselves about a banned member is not alowed. Not asking mods or commitee just talking to each other is brushed under the carpet, thats not good.

talking about it isnt the problem, its certain individuals that ruin the thread by using it for their own personal vendetta, we know that any thread directed towards the whole simon situation will only end in one way so to stop all the silly comments the threads are closed swiftly

you know, simon doesnt do any favours, he had changed a pic on his photobucket to something anti club and got tonyb to bump the thread quoting the pic, it was swiftly removed

but this is si all over, he is banned, he tells people that it was unjust then he goes and does something stupic like that:no:

That one thread gave him the perma ban.

No it was lots and lots of stuff all brought together culminating with that one thread. Now get on topic or shut up please ;)

Also this thread is not Si based, he is the most recent but im trying to speak about the club as a whole not one case

you see how a thread can be closed just cause one person thinks he knows it all and he feels that its his duty to cause upset and stray off topic

this thread ATM is a good thread and hopefully im explaining things as best i can, it will remain open unless it goes so off topic thsat it has to be closed

Its honestly apreciated you taking the time mate :duffer:

Alan

Bet you wish you were at JAE :lol::lol:

nah, ive got a fridge full of stella and pizza and a couple of bottles of real ale, im happy

anyhoo's, someone has to keep the place going, and who better than your friendly mod stellaZ lol

I wonder to maybe reduce the mystery, rather than just deleting the threads (or soft deleting) maybe move them to a quarantine area, lock them, so people can read them if they want to. If they feel they might get offended they simply dont click the button. Then there is no hear say or chinese whispers. But what was said is still available for people to read for their own interest so they can make their own opinions.

Using Si as an example, maybe he did do wrong maybe he didnt, peoples opinions are bound to differ but if the threads that caused the trouble were put somewhere where people (subbed members maybe!) can read them it would clear up he said she said they said as its all written down.

its all here, the reason the threads have been closed over the last couple of days is because a handfull of people took it way beyond a discussion

Only because you're by yourself lol

I can see a thread posted up about it, but i cant see the ACTUAL thread. (unless there is something wrong with account?) What use is a report written by the commitee? It could easily be just as much as "half a story" as to what the other party involved says!

pmsl, not all the mods are at jae, just some unlike me have live's and are out enjoying the day lol

Yup kinda part of the problem in my eyes but

anymore threads that turn into funksi threads will be closed immediately and the people involved will be dealt with as per AUP

implying if you so much as mention his name your in trouble is causing far more harm and is very much un needed. Why should we not be able to talk among ourselves about someone we have known for years?

there isnt much more to the story, anyone who has been on this forum for over a few weeks will have come across simon, and i bet there isnt a person on this thread that hasnt read something from simon and thought "that was a bit too much"

dont be fooled into thinking we banned simon just cause his face didnt fit, he was banned for a number of reason and the final straw was a thread that spin doctor started where simon got very personel and nasty towards spin doctor, MAC1 (cluc chairman) dealt with it himself and it was on this that it was disussed about the future of simon and this club, he was banned some time after the event as it was discussed thouroughly by the comittee and decided enough was enough and after a eunamous (sorry spelling lol) vote he was banned

that was a warning to the people who dont know how to have a decent discusion and only wanted to cause trouble and used simon as a means to do this

this thread has mentioned him quite a lot and no-one has been banned or dealt with, but i bet some members are itching to use this thread to their advantage and cuase mayhem

great post, but let me tell you why you dont see things like this, its because its moderated heavily to delete these types of threads and post's

It's good those sort of posts and threads are moderated but there seems to be no line between banter and insulting, theres not much grey area. What one person finds offensive another two hundered don't but because that one person complains they're opinion is held above others.

It may be just the society we live in where we adverts and tv shows cancelled after two or three complaints despite many many more not taking it so serious.

I'm not digging at the mods because it seems a thankless and very time consuming job and I don't envy you at all.

At least I've got his wheels :wink:

Before I bought them I checked with Alan and he promised me I would not be banned as long as I didn't mention who the previos owner was lol lol

"A subjective view on moderation" is the thread title. Not "Shall we all discuss Si's Lifetime ban and have a little dig at each other?"

Come on guys let's all grow up and take a chill pill. Moderation unfortunately is a necessary evil as some don't know where to draw the line. But as has already been said, this is a site for grown ups and i for one feel a bit of 'jolly banter' is a good thing. And as anyone who knows me will testify, I am allways right

I know, but to be honest, until a mod steped into it the thread it was quite happy, no mood to it or problems. And that is what I'm trying to get at here.

We know your (refering to all mods) a mod. We know being a **** or gogin too far will result in action being taken so why jump in every 2 min to remind us? That causes more threads to degrade into bas and deletion any anything. Just let them run and if they go bad then step in. No need to keep flexing the muscles, we all know they are there ;)

Why can't you mention me fella? I'm the (soon to be) previous owner :tt2:
