after reading the replys on lil stevies thread aobut timers and remote starts (as this was EXACTLY what i was thinking) i was wondering how long to let my z warm up and how long should i cool down for? i have tried to find other threads on this, but get mixed answers. does it make a difference if i have not been heavy on the loud pedal? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Temperature gauge is a good indication. Once the car is at working temp then you cant start pushing a bit more. Its pretty much makes sense you wouldnt drive off and start flooring her straight away. As for cool down see the other thread as to what mine reads from different driving situations.

i give mine about 10 minutes before going full blast - albeit im always a little over-cautious with things. the important thing is the oil has heated up and thinned out, not the water temp, although that is a good 'step 1' indication. :)

in terms of cool-down, I have a turbo timer but only have it set to 10 seconds. the last 5 minutes of driving i dont come on boost. just as good

i tend to use my oil temp guage to go by for when i can give it the beans or not. i think my first notch is 50'C, so i was told by my mechanic mate that he will brake me if i use the boost before the temp has reached atleast 60'C. by this time the coolant temprature is deffinatly at its normal running point (just under half way). somtimes though on a hot day the oil temp can be reading 55ish when i first jump in it.

as for cooling down, i try to stay off the boost for the last few miles aswell (or atlest the length of two songs) failing that then i have a smoke when i pull up.

Most modern semi synthetic and synthetic branded oils will deal with the temps that these cars produce under fast road driving conditions without the need too go through a cooling down process, As long as you have the correct grade of oil and no other cooling problems. As for warming up no more than 2500rpm for the first 20 minutes normally gets everything nicely warmed up.

Totally agree with this a good (after market) temp gauge is a must for any performance car.

Most people would be surprised how long it takes the oil to reach a good running temp. Never go by the water temp.
