Does anyone elses Z try and kill them in the rain?

Not had my Z long and the weather has been mostly dry, well we had a drop of rain the other day and i was in 4th doing about 40mph put my foot down abit and the arse end was everywhere.

So is it my set up or does anyone else have this trouble?

Yes they can be twitchy in the wet or cold but you may have worn bushes, ball joints, springs etc. on the rear suspension.

What set up are you running? Have you ditched Hicas?

If it hasn't rained for a while, the roads will be really greasy & slippy

when it does, all the rubber on the tarmac from the dry weather causes it.

Go steady! :innocent:

I've got 265/40/18s dunlops on the back with plenty of tread, it has been lowerd but not done by me so im not sure on the make, hicas still in use?

its an est but shes ment to be around 340bhp

I never take my 300 out in the rain.....

I have been caught out a few times...ie, coming home, (but i usually check the forcast.) My ol' girl is very rear end twithy, and in the wet, she must be driven with caution.

She's my daily mate so it's out in all weather :)

pussy's lol, my m3 has traction that comes on automatically, im looking for a way to have it come on when i press a switch

you really need to go somewhere and learn how to catch a spin out, best thing to do is (if the car is set up right) just let ya foot off the accelerator

still think you's are pussy's though lol

the one i have feels really quick, maybe its cause ive drove a slow astra for so long, but it deffo feels quicker than my old zed

LOL

My mate has an E46 M3 and I dropped him good and proper until about 140, then he started to pull a little back. My car isn't even highly tuned, so you must be dreaming when you say an M3 is quicker than a Zed.

However, on an A-B run where you're really pushing on, I think I'd rather be in the beemer. The chassis is so stiff that it makes the Zed feel like a Japanese biscuit tin (except biscuit tins are made of higher grade steel than zeds). Whether or not its any quicker is debatable, but the M3 definitely inspires more confidence. Just a shame its got about 30hp to little. Air box, exhaust and remap and you're onto a winner.

I'd still have my Zed though, M3 drivers are wan**rs. No offence Alan:lol:

Oh, and THE best thing about driving the Zed is when its wet.. Born slippy.. Having way too much power is where all the fun is, so its only logical that when grip reduces cos of some lovely rain, that the fun factor goes up. Also the death factor goes up too, but try not to dwell on this. Drive within your limits, especially when going over 50mph - but below that, have a little play and find the cars limits. You'll find the Zed has excellent balance and adjustability. But not very much lock, so don't get to carried away! Oh, and be responsible - its not nice to scare other road users...

off topic...

does it have stabilisers and inflatable armbands as well?

in terms of the Z - i always back off a little when the road's wet. still handles well though thanks to the suspension tuning, just loses out in a straight line.

i hate the idea of traction lol

also regarding the m3, i didnt look for a car that was gonna be quicker than the zed, i wanted something a little more refined and newer

if i wanted a car that was quicker, i would have bought the 450bhp imprezza sti that i was offered, the quickest car ive ever been in

About three years ago after a very slight rain fall, my 'Z' got sideways on a roundabout on the outskirts of Hereford

Easily controlled and corrected but didn't expect the arse end to go so easily at such a slow speed

I was en route to a local garage to have some kit fitted and a re-spray and had my wife following on behind.

Because it was going for a respray I had re-fitted the stock rims and on this ocassion it decided that it wanted to have a play

luckily it was fairly quiet with very little traffic about

However, since that incident I've always been overly cautious in the wet and funnily enough, that's what got me into drifting

well mine tried to kill me on tuesday just pulled out of a junction onto a up hill road got to a slight left hand bend, was only doing 20-30mph and the back just slipped out and i ended up on a grass verge against a hedge, no damage apart from extra body kit styled in grass and bruised pride.................................but as it was my birthday i was hoping to end up in a really quite different type of bush

lol least you got some bush mate :)

I was going to ask what tyres you have - as they can make one hell of a difference! I ran Dunlops (the SP Sport 9000) on my old red Z and it behaved fine in the wet.

My current Z had Avons on the back and TBH they were rubbish - the car was not stable in the wet when driving even slightly enthusiastically. Now I have the new Goodyear F1 Asymetrics all round and the car has sooooo much more grip; the right tyres really do transform the car!

As for your tyre size - the rears should be 265/35/18 to maintain the correct rolling circumference. The "40" profile is too high on an 18 inch rim with tyres that wide.........

But, pussies or not, do take care in wet or slippery conditions. There have been plenty of nice Zs written off, with some sad pics posted on here to warn others.......

Richard:chef:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Tyres will make a huge difference to your Zeds all-weather ability..

I've got THE cheapest, she-ite tyres on my car. I didn't buy 'em, but I'm quite pleased I've got 'em. Even with a modest prod of the throttle the car is sideways, but I try not to push my luck at serious speeds. I also fully expect my Zed to stab me in the back given half a chance, which is probably the best way to approach it.

Expect the worst and hope for the best

I lost mine last year cost me about £300 in repairs. I have a manual I hear autos are worse. But fitted traction control from a group buy here on the site, I still take care in the wet, but more confident with car now too.
