i would imagine some over-fuelling issues.

how much black smoke? is it obscuring the road or is it just under hard driving conditions?

Morning Gaz, hard driving will result in a good amount, but what i am more concerned about is the amount coming from the exaust when car is on idle or reversing into my garage!

Fuel consumption is not excessive [pretty good actually] but i thought the black smoke was an over fueling issue

Dave

sounds like over fuelling try cleaning temp sensor connector it may be giving ecu wrong reading causing it to push more fuel in

My zorts sre black inside the tailpipes, and i get black specs over the rear bumper after a good hard drive, overfuelling yes, but JD chip, so can only assume slightly o/f due to my upgrades. Also, i am sure jimmytt has the same, and am sure he will confirm this when he reads it. HTH.

So am i worrying for nothing then:scared:

What chip/management is it running?

Glad it's running right. You can now start to work on a few of the styling bits and peices. ;)

Mine runs rich to. If i rev it i spit out black spots every where lol!!!!

I was thinking of putting my cats back on and get mr dixon to map it for me :)

Have you reset the ECU since you sorted out the leaks ?.

Black smoke is overfuelling. I remeber Vinz had the same issue and said he had to shovel up a pile of soot in his garage every other week LOL.

I'm sure your's isn't that bad. But it is a pain if you want ot keep the back of your car clean.

I think JD usually overfuels rather than underfuels, but as mentioned, you may find cleaning your temp sensor and MAF, then resetting your ECU will help. It may also be worth checking and cleaning your TB's to see if they are clogged up.

Hi Stu long time no speak:tt2: how do i reset the ecu?

Just remember its far better to be over-fueling abit at high boost than running lean :)

02 Sensors will determine Air/Fuel mix. If one is naff it resorts back to stock settings (ECU Dependant) so this could be a reason why you are over-fueling :)

yeah, making sure your o2 sensors are good is deffo worth doing, i had 2 knackered ones, and was overfuelling summet rotten, changed em and spot on now...

02 sensors wont effect full throttle, only normal driving, could be fpr, check your fuel pressure maybe its too high. Is the engine a bit hesitant at all?

Having a generic chip really isnt ideal it will never run well.. safe but not very well. every car is different. Since i had my engine mapped its run better than ever, its a nice 15afr on tickover so its completly hesitant free. I used to get a black sooty bumper after a few miles but now its far less and i only get a bit on the bumper just above the exhaust, however the engine does run rich after 70mph crusing which is not great for the fuel economy, i might see if john dixon can change some of the mappings during normal road use.

eventually once i have completed a few future mods i will return to JD for another mapping session.

Sorry for the delay Dave,

You can reset your ecu via the Conzult.

Jimmy, FYI, it's had a fully custom mapped chip rather than one off the shelf.

JD was mapping on the Dyno up until we got thrown off to maxing it out, then we continue to map on the roads up until 21 psi.
