Just found out i have no Clutch Booster and glad i pay my £20 per year as i need to ask wether it is managable? WIll it be too stiff and should i leave it out?

As you are aware its hard to find one without getting it from Z1 (my last choice) got some piccies up though!

well chuffed apart from missing a clutch booster to whihc the guy who sold me the conversion said it had it. I thought it was the fluid resovoir, I was told its the black circular thing but i remember that being attached to the pedal so it cant be that missing

It will be stiffer than normal, but you should be able to get one from a breaker. Try Jeff or post a wanted thread up. If all else fails try Andy300zx on ebay. HTH

cheers buddy, I managed to phone him but he doesn;t have one at the moment. He reckons i will be ok without it and that i can cap it until i do find one if i still want one.

He said the clutch is only a little bigger than the non turbos and they feel fine without the Booster.

Any of you experience driving the zed without the clutch booster? My beemer has a stiff clutch so im hoping its similar

The clutch booster is fitted to the Clutch pedal. If you have a TT pedal assembly and TT Clutch master cylinder then the Clutch Pedal wont work without the Booster. There is no connection between the pedal and the Master cylinder without it.

In fact you cant even bolt the clutch pedal into the car without it.

he said something about the servo missing. not sure whether they are the same or not :(

I remmeber somehting bulky on the pedal at the top black and round and had a resovior or somthing the other side of the firewall that connects so im not sure exactly what garage meant. All i know is he said i have 3 options. 1, dont have it, 2 find oneand fit or 3 he can hook up to something (didnt quite hear) but he said the pressure will change alot, somehting like the clutch pedal will be stiffer upon accelerating or decelerating and will constantly change.

will have to call him tomorrow.

You definatly have the booster then (its the item you described) and you cant even fit the pedal without it. From his description I reckon he is on about the Vacumn exansion tanks for the booster.

They are not needed and very rarely ever supplied or fitted with manual conversions.

If you have been supplied a Manual TT Plenum Balance bar with the vacumn pipe and one-way valve then he just needs to connect it to that, or if you still have your Auto balance bar then you can feed it into the Brake booster feed behind the one way valve with a T-piece.

It will work fine this way.

thats the one. he said vacuum storage.

thank goodness for that. yeah i have the auto balance bar for now :)

he still reckons it will be a bit stiffer than normal though

i got an expansion tank from a nissan primera at a scrappers and hooked it up near the battery with pipes going to and from, with a one way valve which was already on the pipe with it, works a treat! it's about 4" x 4" cylindrical... the only thing i think is without one you 'might' get a slight pulse through the pedal?

I have done a manual conversion and do not have the vacuum storage tanks fitted.

Just got the booster fitted to the pedal and a one way valve fitted in the pipe between booster and balance bar.

The pedal feel is perfectly reasonable, you or wife won't have a problem with it.

I am running a standardish clutch though and not a super heavy duty item.

The slight pulse only comes if you don't fit a one way valve.

Also make sure the clutch booster is actually ok before its fitted...

Without the vacuum tanks the only draw back is that if you try to operate the clutch pedal and you haven't eased off the throttle a bit to change gear, the pedal is stiffer, but if you drive correctly and ease off when changing gear the pedal is light. This is because the engine isn't producing a vacuum if you don't. The vacuum storage tanks solve this, but the proper ones req the wing to be removed to fit - don't worry about it!

cheers for your help buddy, i believe the bit about the clutch being stiffer when not easing off the accelerator is what he mentioned to me i remember him quoting (when accelerating it will be stiffer than decelerating and changing gear) he said that depending on what im doing when changing gear it will sometimes change.

looks like he is going through with what you explained so i am not worried anymore :)

I have no booster and its fine

cool :)

and on a good note Fully comp on the jap import. 6000 miles including business use for all, modification cover and even given tip sby a canadian about getting the isurance cheaper and missing the increase penalty for paying monthly :)

A good night to say the least

I had the tanks fitted to my old car when it was converted. Sadly the check valve was missing so I sourced one. Turned out in the end after driving the car for 6 months that it was installed the wrong way. I got the correct valve and my god what a difference. As to the comment about having to remove the wing to fit the tanks I'm not sure how true this is. The garage that converted mine didn't mention it and I couldnt see any evdence of wing removal. I think the car would be managable without it but I personally would want the job done properly and make sure it's all working as intended. Havng no vacuum tanks means as stated before you have a clutch pedal which changes depending on how you are driving. To me that would be anoying!
