my local place charges £295 for a standard re-map. just wanting to know how that compares to other prices, and if its really worth it? what benifits does it really hold?

John Dixon is your best bet for ecu chip and tune/set-up. He has done many members cars here and the results/feedback is first class. I need to get to him soon, when i have the funds. HTH.

Difficult to quantify what the particular company is offering you, the engine ecu has an eprom (chip) which is normally soldered in and requires removal and a replacement "chip" with a pre-loaded map on it. The details of the mapping will and can vary dependant upon what they are trying to achieve, either way its all designed to allow extra boost to be used and among other parameters the fuel and ignition timing needs to work with this.

I would also hazzard a guess they may not have included a full set up of the engine, raising the boost, checking timing, throttle balance, tps settings etc. etc

A replacement chip / re-map without any other work will achieve nothing, in fact may well have a negative efffect, ask for more information on exactly what you get and what they do as far as setting up.

There are plenty other avenue`s to get your zed boosted, ask here for reccomendations.

Hope that helps

With increasing boost, does that then mean lower fuel economy and then more wear on the engine? is it all a case of "robbing peter to play with paul?"

The car has had some slight engine mods such as modified intake, and some hks ssqv dump valves ( i think i've wrote that right) and possibly an uprated fuel pump (unless the standard one hums like a bitch) and a b-spec 2 controller. so my logic tells me that without the map being set up properly after these are fitted its likely to do more harm than good to performance and economy. would that be right?

The only mods youve listed that would need a re map are the fitment of a boost controller IF the boost is raised.Air filters and dump valves DONT require re maps unless were in EBAY mode Lol.

I'd assume the boost would be raised, otherwise it would be pretty pointless installing it. however it is safety boost mode (i think) due to a det sensor fault. the controller won't go over 6psi, so i am assuming it is safety mode.

its in the garage on wednesday for a propper diagnosis.

just bpu your car, performance air filter, cat back exhaust, chip and boost increase. Job done
