right just want to confirm what i think is already wrong with this z the car drives and boost fine but when the car i warmed up and on tickover it burns oil out the exhaust i am guessing this is one of the turbo seals failing is it not?

11 feb 05 it had a 69k tt engine with turbos fitted

am i right or could it be a whole host of other things dont know mutch about these motors have worked on celicas before not had on nissans

Mine has the same problem....seems hard to diagnose without proper investigation.

The 1st thing that needs changing is the PCVs and hoses. It could be one of these.

A cheap 1st possibility.

I've had my PCVs checked, still smokes from one side at tickover. Only hot tickover though and once back on the move it clears. Doesn't smoke under any other conditions.

I'm leaning towards a turbo seal as it makes sense.

Cold engine, thick oil, no leak from seal. Hot engine on the move, turbos working, generating heat, seals swell some what, no leak, no smoke. Plus increased back pressure when driving.

Hot engine ticking over, turbos cool off, seals contract a little, oil hot and more 'searching' less back pressure oil passes through tired seals and burns directly in hot exhaust giving a white blue smoke not dark blue because its not oil burning through the engine, just directly from hot exhaust.

Also I have been told a compression test is unlikely to find a problem if the engine runs so sweetly, which mine does. Still performs perfectly.

Trouble is turbos are expensive, pulling the engine to change a PITA if you get it wrong!

80% turbos

15% PCV

5% Cracked piston land

Or you may have overfilled with oil?

What colour is the smoke ? white/grey is turbos, blue is PCV/pistons, black is overfuelling. Is it one side more then the other ?

i will defo be getting anotherone will have to be a unmolested tt manual but there getting herd to find these days but will be after start of next year methinks

thanks for the info guys

mine is doing the same blip the throttle and the smoke clears itself but one of my pcv's has quite a oily mess around it i would go with changing the valves first as they are the cheapest option

Yep I have the same problem, near side only on Hot tick over only

Any idea how much PVC Valves are ?

its worth changing the PCV hoses at the same time (the hoses with the restricter in). 1 PCV + Hose about £50.
