Good job I love my Zed or I'd be selling her on right now, she's a bloody naughty handful!

Still haven't sorted my headlights - its an electrical fault, some idiot has messed up the wiring of the car, but I digress...

Twice now this has happened. Go for a drive out. Its warm, its humid - stick the air con in (well on econ as it needs regassing) - then there's a horrid squeal from under the bonnet and the engine cuts out. It happened again today and I broke down in the middle of the A66 :mad2:

It was only when I managed to limp off the road that my boyfriend realised this only happens when the interior cooling is switched on.

Common fault? Never heard of it? Possibly linked to the electrical fault?

Got my mechaniccoming a week on Monday just to check her over for me, but he's a proper, dirty hand, engine in bits, mending brakes kinda mechanic rather than an auto electrician, but I always get him to look over any new car I buy for peace of mind....

Ho hum! Current plans are to get niggles sorted, enjoy her til the tax runs out end Oct then SORN her til spring so I can save up for a Micra or some such noddy car to get my shopping in lol

i would imagine you have a seised compressor. when the magnetic clutch engages the engine tries to turn it but cant so the belt squeals and the engine stalls

I never use the aircon in mine purely in case something like this does happen. Just open the windows :)

Yes but I keep getting wet!!!!

not too bad but you would need a new compressor, should be able to get one off a breaker (i have a spare if you need) but they are mega heavy and would be a pain to post

Ok, cheers - will see if I can find one locally, not too many Zs in breakers round here, but I will put the feelers out, then hopefully my mechanic could fit it for me...

^^^IIRC there are also 2 types of compressor for different series of cars.

Be sure you get the right one for your car. You can tell by the pipe connections.

Hmm, I woldn't have a clue, wouldn't even know where to look.

Is there a Haynes manual lmao

Pull the air con fuse from the engine bay, this will stop the clutch on the compressor trying and if seized causing the squeal and stalling. Then you can use the temperature pod at your leisure without that problem.

No haynes manual for the Z32. There is for the Z31 so don't be fooled.

You can sometimes buy the genuine Nissan manual off Ebay etc, but are rareish and can cost upto £100!

The best way to tell is to remove the compressor and then compare with the replacement. When I bought one, I described the pipe connections to the seller to make sure it was right. One seller had the wrong one, one seller had the right one! Ball ache!

There is a code numer on the top of the aircon compressor, take a note of it and phone Mike Feeney MJP, he will be able to tell you the differences and why.

Cool, sorted! Took the fuse out, fans stil work but no squeal! Marvellous. Til I can be bothered getting the air con re-gassed I'll stick with having a blower for now!

Cheers guys

No problem. Does sound like you have a seized compressor.:(
