Possible water leak

Hi guys,

took the car out for the first time in a few weeks, first stop as ever the local garage as Iv got a couple of slow punctures at the back. Anyway garage is only 2 min from the house, get there leave the engin running and start working my way round all of the tyres. When I finally get to the front left there is a nice puddle forming in front of the wheel.

Obviouse question from the mechanically inept like myself, what is the likely culprit.

Thoughts and advise as ever appreciated.

Cheers

Martin.

First check the water level in the rad. Give the hoses a good old squeeze and look for obvious signs of loose jubilee clips/split hoses. Check the windscreen washer container for splits or where the motor/pumps are fitted. Check the radiator/water oversplill tank for the same. Let us know how you get on.

depending on which side it is it's either washer bottle leaking/overfilled (drivers side) or passenger side could be overflow bottle is to full so as water from rad enters the bottle th excess is being pushed out just keep eye on water levels over next few times of use

Ok guys had a quick poke about this morning, couldn't see anything obviouse on the pipes I could find, ran the engine with no signs of water.

I took it for a run and once I parked up again there was water dripping from the front left again.

I opened up some of the wheel arch liner to gain access behind the intercooler, What is the tank which sits here as I think this may be the problem. Does anyone have a photo or diagram of this area before I start thinking about dismantling everything.

Cheers Again

Cheers Gary.

If i'v not added any water to the system what would cause this to overflow?

vould be to much water in the overflow tank so when the car pushes excess water from the rad it's causing it to overflow

If your radiator cap spring is weak it lets water out of the radiator into the overflow container, there is no return from the overflow container back into the radiator, so over time the overflow container fills up, once its full water leaks out from the join (which does not have a seal) between the container and the fill pipe.

Try a new radiator cap, as a first step to curing your leak.
