I have done a search and found no answer to this other than the possibility of a mouse living in the car..?

Anywho, the problem is when I press the clutch down I get a squeaking/clicking noise like I am pushing against a squeaky bed-spring or something... it's quite annoying and was wondering if anyone has any remedies and can point me in the direction of curing this problem.

Many Thanks!

I have exactly the same thing............I am not sure either what it is, I have seen the underside of my car a few times but can not for the life of me work out what it is. But it is damn annoying. I do hope it is not a bell housing removal to fix it?

Unfortunately i have a feeling it's the same as i've just found on the V8.

I can't remember putting any copper grease on the gearbox shaft to run the clutch up and down and so everything works but it makes a squeek when you operate the clutch inside the bellhousing.

Hoping that i can get someone in the car to open the clutch and i can get a small paint brush in through the window with some grease to paint the splines and hope it spreads when the clutch plate is moved over it.

sometimes the pivot ball in the bell housing needs a bit of grease, you can easily reach it through the fork hole with a brush or a grease pump

Cheers guys for the advice, I can actually feel the clicks through my pedal very slightly as I have just drove home from work... What an irritating noise! - So is it possible to do it myself then?.. I'm not exactly sure what I am looking for...

Cheers

Short of the clutch plate itself which obviously needs the gearbox dropped everything else can be accessed, under dash is the pedal and springs, use just a light grease ; as pre mentioned, under the car pivot ball in housing and piston to fork on the slave . just grease it all! good luck

if its coming through your foot then a spell upside down in the drivers footwell with a can of spray on grease up into the pedal assembly works..had the same thing on my cabstar and now no more:wink:

Thanks again lads, and sorry for sounding dumb Santa, I'm no where near as clued up as you are or familiar with the terms 'pivot ball and piston to fork onto slaves" lol :).. but what I think I will do is get my head under the footwell, have a look up where the clutch pedal leads to and see if I can find any springs within reach.. it's funny as the noise is more audible outside than inside.. but you can feel and hear the clicking/creaking on your foot if you have the window open.. also are there any illustrations of a clutch pedal assmebly? so I can view all the parts and try and isolate any springs I would just like to know what I am looking for before I go lubing everything up lol

This should help, the pivot ball is part of the gearbox, so will come under the manual transmission section of the online manual http://www.300zx.co.uk/tech/manual/manual/mt/007.gif called the ball pin in the manual

Cheers Graham! Dre, if you take a look at the gif, you`ll see the bell housing at the top, look closely and you`ll see 2 rectangular`ish holes. The one you can access is the smaller/lower one, it should have a rubber dust boot protruding from it and within that rubber is the fork which goes down to the slave cylinder. You`ll need to get under the car and remove the rubber boot n shine a torch in there..follow the path of the fork and you`ll see an bump in the fork. Behind the bump is the pivot ball that`s where you need to grease.
