Slick Pete will be starting on my new car in about two or three weeks. He's going to strip out most of the mechanicals in the slicktop and get the bodywork right up to scratch along with a few other jobs :)

The engine and electronics from the red car will be put into the slicktop by Dan when Pete has done his stuff.

There are going to be a fair few new parts so there will be lots of good stuff up for grabs at very reasonable prices. Pete will be sorting out what's to be had from the slicktop and there will be some stuff from the red one and of course the rolling shell will be looking for a new owner. Not much in the way of details just yet but will be posting a thread in the for sale when we know precisely what's going.

What is certain is that while I won't be stripping the slicktop to the bare bones I won't be keeping aircon and various servos etc to keep the weight right down.

I guess my main performance aim is to exceed 200 mph. I managed 196 mph on my ZX10R after spending a bloody fortune so this is my last chance as getting too bloody old for it lol.

Another day.... and a few more jobs done.

Fitted Stillen front sway bar completre with new bushes.

Fitted new urethane steering rack bushes.

Fitted new adjustable tension rods.

Started cleaning up in engine bay. Removed NA wirhing loom . What a PITA getting that outta the bulkhead. Good job Dan is putting the TT stuff in!!

Next to do.....

Fit adjustable top arms.

I have urethane bushes for bottom arms but might leave that for Dan to do.

Need to get rid of the big ugly clutch bleeding pipe so I will make up a short new hard pipe and then we can go braided on the last part..

The battery has caused some corrosion on the tray and underneath it so I need to sort that. I might remove the tray to get paint properly under it. Drill the spot welds then just bolt it Back.

Thats about all for the fun stuff. This weekend I will be underneath doing waxoyl and stuff.

Couple of pics from today.......

nice work mate.

nice to see such a clean example, my swb was far worse

i would love to put all the upgraded bit on my swb that you are on the slicky. ill just have to make do with the restoration for the time being and bring the power upgrades later. im hoping my 200sx will crack 200 when done, perhapse i should just drop that engine in my 300

Well its Monday again and time to get a bit more done.

I hit an annoying issue today as I was cleaning up the engine bay.

It looks like the Nissan robot that sprayed the engine bay only put one thin pass of base coat on it and then cleared off on a tea break cos when I started to clean the inner wings the paint literally dissolved off with Cif spray!!

However it will all turn out good as Bob has given me the go ahead to paint the engine bay and treat the whole job as if it was my car.

So.... Im going to strip it all out then pop the shell in the workshop for a nice shiney white paint job.... then Im going to repace all the crapppy Nisan bolts and tacky clips with proper stainless stuff.

Its going to be a PITA to do but Im confident the end result will be good! (it had better be or Im in trouble:2guns:)

On the positive side... absolutely no damage and no rust except under the battery tray due to acid spill.

meanwhile I have sidetracked Bob and sent him off to order MORE goodies from Z1!!

I love spending other peoples money:smartass::whistling:

Pics of the paintwork.... not impressed by Nissan quality here at all.:hammer:

some top work mate, im really interested in this thread, its great to see it all come together

really look forward to the end result

Cheers Allan. As "older members" Bob and me are looking to create something a little more subtle and understated than the normal modded 300ZX.

im happy to be associated with this car and Bob is easy to get on with. He has a vision/goal and a decent budget/expectation of the costs/time involved.

i love being left to get on with it in my own time and to create that subtle "function over form" concept.

There will be a little Chrome appearing tho later:punk:

Just to add a little highlight or two but Im also incorporating some powder coated stuff in the smooth OEM look style.

Same as that. It's going to be great following the progress from its inception(think that's the right word/spelling? Si?) to completion. Keep the updates coming Pete.

just out of interest, i'm sure you will need them, but i'm after the 2 exhaust brackets in the picture, if you happen to be getting rid, i will also post this in the wanted section too, just thought i'd ask matey, looking good pal!

Coming on nicely Pete, Bob's a lucky chap it's going to be a stunner when it's finished :D

And Bob - i'm extremely jealous with you getting that Twinz rear bumper, i'll give you a tenner if i can take a quick mould off it before you fit it

Slightly better news today on the paint situation. It looks like the lacquer robot remembered to put some lacquer on the headlight area.

Pity the lazy git didnt pop his inane robotic arm into the engine bay. 60 seconds of lacquer spray in 1995 would have saved me a day and a half of work now:taz:

Enough ranting!!!

I have been out to buy some Nissan QN0 white pearl base coat and I WILL be putting enough on AND lacqer on top. Its only £16 for 250ml:w00t:

Before I put it down on its wheels I fitted the adjustable top arms.

Pics.... Enjoy

need to make some space in the workshop now before I push it in for painting.

again top work, there is nothing better than a nice clean 300zx engine bay, would look great with some carbon fibre and chrome goodies in there against the white (like the pic of the silver one with carbon fibre bits)

is the 200mph goal still on the cards??? Would be great to have a road going zed hit 200mph, if the sierra sapphire cosworth can do it, im sure you's can

Car now in workshop ready to start on Monday with paint and subframe removal.

Car was facing the wrong way in my drive but two forum members turned up today and helped me push it round the correct way. Thanks guys(you know who you are!)

  • 2 weeks later...

I just love working with fresh JDM imports. Everything undoes first time. No rust to be found.....

im off to the Workshops near Silverstone to collect Bob's red rolling shell. Dan Turner and his guys are keeping all the engine /box and associated stuff and will install it all on the white slicktop when I deliver it, once I have finished the subframe/suspension work.

Still got loads to do:helpsmilie:

Well another Monday and mayhem all over the M1 on my trim to Dan Turner,s workshops near Silverstone.

I knew the day wasnt going to be good when I discovered at 8.00am this morning that the area where I live was all gridlocked and cordonned off by the police due to a fire in an industrial yard close by.

It took me over half an hour to go 2 miles to get the trailer.

As soon as I got on the M1 the tailbacks started, roadworks + accidents.

The day ended in a result tho finally.

The red beast is now secured in my mates yard ready for me to make a start tomorrow removing what Bob is keeping for the slicktop. (not a lot).

So if anyone wants a really nice project to do based on this shell then it will soon be time to come n look.

i was so tired by the time I got back that I forgot to take pics.... anyway here is a taster I took as I went past tonight. More tomorrow folks.

that would make a great project, its very tempting, but ourlass would go mad having 2 cars off the road being repaired lol

Here are a few more pics to tempt you Allan!!!

Taken this moring before I got started on the dismantling.

The colour(IMO) is fabulous. Needs a good wash tho.

Interesting to see how the sunlight picks out the gold in the mix.

Work well on the way now to remove the last bits from this one before putting it up for sale. Just need to clarify a few details with the boss.

I have been underneath and its still very good with hardly are signs of corrosion.

It was sitting high as there is now no engine or box in it ... but it still looked very mean indeed.

One last pic and Im off to get some dinner.:sweatdrop:

i didnt realise that it had a gold flip in it, really shows in those pics, wish i had a garage, i would have been interested in this

just showed michelle and she said no fookin way

that sounds pretty final:laugh:

Brilliant dry weather and warm enough to get the engine bay cleaned up and a quick repaint.

This weekend should see the stuff back in the engine bay and the Tein Coilover suspension fitted.
