Im trying to hook up a Dell SX270 pc to my JVC KW-AVX800 double din head unit.

The sound is no problem. I've connected the Audio Input to the head unit (red and white rca lead) to a 3.5mm jack on the pc's sound card. Sorted. Happy days. All works fine.

My problem is getting a picture to stay still. Im getting the "enter password" screen with the windows logo appearing on my screen but it's flashing across it.

The manual for the head unit says that it's resolution is 480 x 236. I connected my PC back to a normal monitor but the lowest resolution i could get it to is 800 x 600.

I suppose what im asking is:

a) How do I go about lowering the resolution to match the head unit?

b) What have people used in the past when installing a pc in their cars?

c) Should i think about getting rid of the head unit and putting in a 7" flatscreen monitor?

Thanks for any help guys.

Chances are that the PC (and 99% of all pc's) cannot output a resolution that low. My ITX setup could go down to 640 x 480, and i can't see anyting going any lower.

I used 800 x 600 on a liliput 7" monitor. Not the cheapest way to go about it, but i worked and looked a treat.

The only issue i ever had with going for a monitor instead of a DIN unit, is fabricating the radio surround and making it look OEM. I was never happy with it so eventually ditched the setup.

The problem I had was the angle at which the dashboard sits. If you have the targa blinds out, you can't see a thing on-screen.

I would hazard a guess that windows simple wont do less than 640x480 as this is the minimum requirement for the OS. I have had a look and cant seem to find much in the way of a way of forcing a "custom" resolution.

The reason why its flashing is possibly because the screen refresh rate is wrong for the head unit, It can be got to by going to display properties, settings, advanced and then the monitor tab and changing it to something lower I would have thought.

Although even if it did work at 480x236 you wont really be able to see whats going on, the start button will take up half the screen lol.

You could try this http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/lcd-display/42122-tutorial-forcing-custom-resolution-windows.html but I dont think it will do less than 640x480 personally!
