Mines an import and I switched mine over without any problem, top mount fittings were all present just needed to drill panel for bolt - guess it might depend on age.

hi,

Hi kurt, mine too was as moby says, just drilled the ineterior panel to reveal mounting point

dave

Agree the top mounting is definately there, converted scores to 3 point belts.

Jeff TT

Yep, same here without problems.

There is an issue with converting the front belts from Door mounted to pillar mounted...but for the rear belts I have never encountered an issue.

I've just sold my rear seat belt set up on E-bay.

3 point rear seat belts.

Window surround panels

rear quarter panels.

I think the whole lot went for about £90. So if you haven't started yet, I would advise you to buy the UK panels as well as the seat belts. That way if you wanted to you could also change the front seat belts to mount from the pillar rather than the door.

Sorry to hijak your thread Kurt, but i was contemplating changing my front belt from door mount to pillar but i have the apperature at the lower but the lower mounting point is not threaded either - i understand that the top mounting can be a problem as well - is there a definate guide somewhere on here where someone has got round this or is it more trouble than it is worth - any help much appreciated

dave

To be honest bud it's probably more trouble than it's worth!! For the top you will have to weld in a captive nut, not an easy job as you have very limited access to the rear side of it. And would it be safe in an accident, after all your life may depend on it!

The rears, as mentioned above, shouldn't be a problem at all

No welding required. the captive nuts are there. like jefftt i have also done dozens over the years.

Welding WOULD be required for the fronts as they are NOT there on early series cars where the belts are door mounted. This has been discussed here a few times in the past and I believe almost (if not all) stated that the captive not was not already in the B pillar for the front belts.

i have checked mine and no captive not - at this stage i do not hate the front belts enough to go through the pain in fitting - nice idea while the trim was out but not losing sleep over it

many thanks

It's relatively straight forward, all you need is the inertia belt assemblies for both sides and the clasps to go with them (complete with all bolts and washers) On the doner car you'll see that the belt comes out of the rear quarter panel. Around this point is a small plastic surround piece, if you can obtain these then it'll make all of your effort much more worth it.

Remove the rear seat back, the seat squab and both quarter panels. You'll also need to remove the quarter window surround plastic panels from both sides. .......

Then as I've already posted in the past...

Not really an FAQ, but I'll try to help, as I fitted them to mine late '06.

Once you've taken the quarter panel off you'll end up with this.

All the holes are there in the proper places along with threads within, the lap belts uses the bottom one at the moment.

attachment.php?attachmentid=29037&stc=1

You'll have to remove this panel (along with the boot dampners, be VERY carfull here) and drill the hole, it's already marked on the reverse of the panel. Then re-fit the panel

Now all you have to do is trim the quarter panel in one place only.....

Fit the belt in place and torque up.

Place the quarter panel to where it will fit, and make a mark of where the belt crosses it...

attachment.php?attachmentid=29038&stc=1

Trim this with a sharp knife about 5mm into the panel, try the fit again and make sure the belt will run properly, if not trim a little more. If it fits OK, then you now need to make three small holes for the trim plate.

With three holes drilled, fit the trim and hold fast with the pop clips.

Now fit the quarter panel back in place....

Job done.

Just another image for you...
