Hi folks,

Has anyone had to tackle anything like this?

21dev83.jpg

I found this horror story hidden underneath a centimetre of body filler, Gutted!

I cant find any repair kits,i'm considering just rebuilding it myself with some sheet steel.

If anybody has done this repair before,do you have any pointers on the job?

Many thanks

Foole

you can get a sill repair bit for that part..or at least you could a few months ago, was on ebay ....I need the same thing, I guess that´s why I don´t see them for sale anymore :(

Looks about the same as mine! Check out my link in my signature below.

I got some rear repair panels from a guy on ebay called littlebird1303 - he sells quite a few different car repair panels, it may be worth contacting him. I had one side off him when he was listing them then contacted him for the other side some months later, although he had none listed he made one up for me :)

Many thanks for the help guys,

That repair panel you had looks easy enough to manufacture myself,i was hoping for a more extensive repair panel that included the inner sill etc..

But it looks like i might have to get on it with some sheet steel and i'll have to hire a mig.

If anybody has any documenting pictures of welding the inner sill it would be a great help.

Thanks again folks

From memory he did do inner panels as well, but I only wanted the outer one. You could make one from sheet steel but I wanted one rolled to the correct shape & for £45 its not too bad.

Thats pretty cheap, would be nice to get the inner cos it will be harder to make, ill see if I can find Mr.F, thanks Black-Zed. I looked on ebay for littlebird, he only has some repair panels for an MR2, but ill try and contact him if theres a chance he has them.

Ta folks

Easy enough fix for a tame welder, no need for replacement panels if using a skilled guy, DIY fix it may well be best to use a new panel.

Definately go for the replacement panels then, our welder has 30+ years experience so its a no brainer for him.

Good luck with the repair.

I,ve just bought all six panels that he does , both arches and lower sill sections and inner sill reinforcers , not cheap at £250 but they do look good quality and nice thick galvanised steel as well . HTH

Neither Luke or Mr F now deal with the chap who makes them as he decided to go direct to the public thru Ebay.

The outer cover sill is only available for the LWB but Im sure it can be trimmed to fit the SWB.

The outer had already been welded/patched before I bought the car (in 2004) which goes to show that even J spec cars are now rusting away quietly.

Glad to see you still got the car!

Hiya mate, yeah she's still my baby lol, I found the little patch, and I was speculating when it was done, nice to know! shame whoever did the repair used so much body filler, cos the rot didnt get through it til it was this bad, I would have liked to have caught it earlier, im gonna do the other side too while im at it.

So now I know why there was such a thick layer of filler covering the panel.. Shes had a whole new nsr wing replaced or repaired and it sits behind the door shut line, so lots of filler to match the gap, bummer cos it means im gonna have to use loads of filler to make it look right again.. But the panel I made from an old cavalier wing is good, im happy with the finish, ill post some pics later.

I have brand new inner and our sills from Nissan for Lwb car for sale but not at £45.

Mr f is storing them for me..
