I just threw the electric fan away and went back to Viscose for better cooling.

It stays around 215 degrees on the digital and in between half and three quarters on the dash one, (more towards half than three quarters).

Is that about a normal running temperature or is that still on the high side? I took the thermostat out while I was waiting on a new one, I know is a new engine so will be tight and making a lot of friction and heat until it has worn in a bit. On that note it has done around 30 miles on £22 of petrol... but it is now running and driving so nearly a working car now.

Mine sits at about half or just under, so not far out. Mine is an N/A though so might run slightly cooler than a TT.

Cant wait to see it in the flesh, but i bet youre frustrated as hell at the minute lol

I dont have a thermostat in it at the moment, without the viscose it got very very hot!.

Yeah maybe it is still running a bit hot, I dont have the shaped bit of plastic from the rad to funnel the air from the viscose fan, do you think that does much?. I can drive it with the viscose though, on the other one it got very hot very quick.

I might change te water pump as well just to be on the safe side in case the impeller is slipping when it gets hot?.

215 Fahrenheit = 101 Celsius

Yes thats too hot. You want to be running around 75-85c (165-185f)

Better MPG running a sherman tank TBH hope it gets better as it runs in. Ideally I would like 10-15 mpg.

It could be in KMS could be even less at the moment.

the shrowed is missing on mine & it still sits at 78/79deg so dont think it makes much difference but one thing i did do was replace the temp sender with a new one from millauto's & it read 20deg higher than it actually was so put the old one back in !! is yours a nissan temp sender?

No i dont think so but will try that

It would help if you have the front of the car higher than the rear to :)

I think the viscous fan is a far better option than the after market electric fans available. Jimmer has had several vehicles with electric fans fitted and getting a bit hot. On re-fitting the viscous unit they have run normally. That fuel consumption figure, is that 'normal' driving or a bit 'spirited' as one would say. Sounds Murchielago territory to me.

Thats high, the only extra friction your going to get is from new rings bedding in and it really shouldn't affect the temp, are you 100% sure the timing is correct

I know it's a stupid question but running lean tends to mean a hot engine. Is the mapping alright for idle and standard driving?

No that is plod about driving did not put my foot down at all, I think that maybe it needs mapping by someone else?.

I am going to change the water pump and have another rad on the way so will see if either of those things help or not.

Today i changed the water pump, put a thermostat back in and no change at all 215  .

Apart from a new rad im out of ideas unless it has a big air lock in there somewhere?.

get it to john dixon for the mapping and get jimmer to look over the engine....

something is wrong, way too hot and the mpg is silly

mine running with 850cc injectors and twin pumps is just as economical as a normal zed when pootling around, though single figures when driving on track :)

I think the map is crap, I e-mailed them to say its running rich and I got some bullshit reply telling me it was running lean blah blah blah. I pops and bangs when you start to put your foot down and it burbles pops and bangs when you come off the gas. That and 4mpg says it all really.

Would a bad map be responsible for the higher running temp?

Spoke to Jimmer he said it could be the rad something or other blocked by solder, have a new one on order from DTA so will try that. Also e-mailed Kyle for suggestions/

did you take it to that place in new milton?

yep but my options were limited as it was a non runner at the time. Where can I take it that does good AEM tuning?
