Hey guys,

thought I start a thread about my progress with my 300zx. Well I bought it for really cheap which now I am not surprised at all :P Most would scrap this car but I have a lot of spare time and I do a lot of work on cars so I'll do most of the work by myself. The Z I bought had a blown headgasket, destroyed main bearings, busted and rusted chassis, the whole interior had fungus and mildew all over the leather seats and trimming....if this won't draw you back from buyinf it than you are as crazy as I am :cool3:

Soo I started stripping the car to pieces, the engine is already out and dissasembled, interior is out also and now I'm stripping the other stuff so I'll have just the shell to work on. Did a couple of pics so feast you eyes on the rust :P

Here it gets nasty...

So now I'm surrounded with a huge pile of parts, I took most of them already to my warehouse like the engine and interior, want to focus on the bodywork and rust repair for now. Now my garage is pretty empty :P

Well that's about it for now, just need to remove the rear suspension, fuel tank and brake lines and it's ready for repairing and welding. Hope to become a fully paid member pretty soon...:P Wish me luck lol.

Well actually...before I dissasembled her I couldn't lift her from the lifting points under the sills, it was bending and cracking :P

Reason I decided to buy it and fix it is because it was either this or save up 6k for a little less rusted one...we do have 300zx's pretty expencive and rare too.

Anyway...thanks for the replys, I hope I will be able to fix the rust...the 300zx is worth it.

Get that man a :duffer::duffer:

Man oh man!!! They might be expensive over there???? 'where ever there is?' But you could pick up a clean one up over here and ship it back for a lot less than 6K.

That said, hat off to ya buddy for taking on the project. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Slovakia dude :P

I'll see how much plates require replacing and if it's too much I'll consider getting a better shell.

Crikey, there wont be much of the original shell left when you've finished! Fair play mate, braver man than me, I'd maybe do it with an E-type or something, cos you haven't got much choice, but i don't think i'd tackle that bad boy!

It's a right hand drive shell you have? If I was you, I'd get a better right hand drive shell. I have seen guys on this and other sites sending better, and I mean much better to the scrappers, just to get rid of them.

Either way you are taking on a mammoth task and best of luck with the project.

As everyone else has said fair play to you fella thats one hell of a repair!!!! I would seriously consider finding another shell, by the time youve spent out to fix that would probably be cheaper to import one or road trip holiday to the UK and buy one here lol

Thanks guys.

It's a LHD btw. And the thing is it won't be cheaper to repair this shell than to import a good one, reason is I have loads of zinc'd (dunno how you write it:P) sheet metal and my uncle said he did cars in much worse condition and it should take 4-5 days to remove and spotweld new plates, so I trust he will put up a nice job and fairly cheap. Getting a better shell would be simpler imo not really cheaper and this is my project car sooo I estimate it will take more than a year to put it back on the road but I've got loads of spare time so it does't bother me anyway :P

Oh and my plans for this car is keeping a "stocker" look and possibly some engine upgrades, not really looking for huge amounts of power just improve responce, guess a BB turbo and small tweaks here and there. Remove all that unnecessary junk like HICAS, AIV, EVAP, EGR etc. and a bit of weight reduction, specificaly remove the power seats and all that heavy junk in the car interior. But I was quite surprised how light the bonnet is:)

Sooo responce and power plus some weight reduction and keep it a sleeper look is my goal.

As above, you've practically stripped the car, why didn't you just source a shell with no rust on? Plenty of them about and you'd have had a solid car with no filler or welding on it then.

Good luck! But certainly I'd never have bothered welding that up considering you can get perfect shells for next to nothing.

There are virtually no LHD shells available and if you get one it probably wont be cheap.

I've sent 2 shells to the scrappers over the past year, both of which are a million times better than that! good luck with the project!

Out of interest, you said you BOUGHT the car? how much for. I thought someone would have to pay 50 quid to take that away.

If you've got the heart though, then you can be well proud of yourself if you turn what's left of a Z into something really special :)

Yeah well if it weren't a Z but a different car I'd also say that :P Anyway I bought it for 700euro...I know it's a lot for a pile of junk like this but we have different prices back here so it was cheap, actually no one it their right mind would buy it :D. I could compare it like buying a 240Z just because it's rare and hard to come by...oh and I really wanted a Z32 :P

I hope I will fix this car, it would be a shame to scrap it and after the rust is treated I hope it will last at least 10 more years. Also I own 4 more nissans...it was just a matter of time till I buy a Z :P

Nice one matey

Good luck with the build we all look foward I'm sure to see your progress as you go along:thumbup1:

Wish ya all the luck :clover::clover:
