VAT increase hardly a surprise,.......... at least we will all be paying rather than a select few I suppose

i agree - although i think it's a bit brave to try and pay it all off in just 5 years! i was quite surprised there was a "video game tax relief"!! it was a tax relief for games developers over here in the UK.

im glad some of the benefits have been alterted, may make some of the lazy fookers work

Damn straight! I think where they want to cut public sector work they should make people on benefits do some bloody work for the dosh they get! Theres plenty of unskilled work that they could do, even if it was going around clearing rubbish from public areas, painting over graffiti, maybe doing some gardening for the elderly etc :glare:

I think you mean "some people"

Yeah not ALL people on Benefits are sponges, some are just caught in an unfortunate situation. But those Chavs who clearly take the pi55 and have no intention of ever working should be made to do community service for their benefits. :glare:

I think the VAT raise should have been incremental. Think it's a little harsh to those on lower incomes to issue 2.5% on top of current VAT levels in one fail swoop.

I'm unemployed at the minute but they won't pay me jobseekers because I won't apply for jobs I'm trained to walk into, I left because I felt I needed a career change and they won't help me or even let me apply for jobs I'm not trained specifically for, whats the point in applying for jobs I don't even want to do anymore?! it's wasting my time and that companies time! useless.

Was expecting it to be tough, they have to do something to try and get us out of this debt. Quite suprised by some of the good stuff though.

True, but increments would be a major hassle for companies pricing; catalogues, websites, advertising - all has to be updated to reflect new pricing.

No worse than dropping it once, then hiking it up again....which is what's just been done anyway. Mind you, plenty of retailers didn't pass on the savings when it was down at 15%.

Good point Paul but in this crazy country with some of the crazy rules and regulations we have they would end up suing the govt like prisoners did for slopping out and got compensation, bet it would be against their human rights ffs.

Cheers John

It was your decision to leave though, not theirs. I can see your point to an extent. But if I walked out of a job out of choice, I'd not want to try and claim against it.

its not happening till Jan 2011 though, big gaps inbetween for companies to prepare; compared to increments.

i didn't want to claim, i went to the jobcentre to look for a job and was told i couldnt see an advisor without making a claim, all i wanted to do was ask if they knew any agencies in newcastle that dealt with the oil+gas industry

listen, ive said it before, if people deserve the right to be on benefits becasue of an illnes (a real one) then so be it, my mother is on sickness benefit with dodgy ticker, bad lungs, emphasima and a knackered leg

but some people cream the life out oif benefits and there is fook all wrong, ive just got shot of a load of people from my facebook as they are all bragging about being on the take and enjoying the sun (most of them single mothers with about 6 kids)

my neighbor actually brags that she has never worked a day in her life, she's actually proud of the fact, thing is she has 3 daughters who have followed her example by having a kid and sitting at home while the boyfriend/husband does a hard days graft.

If I was being specific I would probably mean "most people". My Nan used to do the shopping for all the old dears in her street (LOL! old dears - she was older than most of them!!) pretty much until the day she died

She had dodgy knees, dodgy hips & cancer. If she could do that out of the goodness of her heart then Im sure "most" people could do some good for the community!!

Not as bad as i anticipated and it could have been a lot worse.

Agreed thought it would be worse

Unfortunately tough measures are necessary in order to reduce the vast deficit left by the outgoing government.

The VAT increase is harsh; however let's not forget that (petrol aside) real necessities like food are zero rated. And the duty on fuel/alcohol has been frozen (or in the case of cider for the chavs; the previously planned increase was reversed!!).

There have been a fair few critics of the Chancellor's plans; but lets be honest, everyone knew there was going to be some pain no matter who won the election.

Geoffry Howe made similar changes when he became Chancellor in 1979; which in the end paid off and returned the country's funds back into the black.

Richard:flowers:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

"most" sounds better :thumbup1:

Fuel is unchanged, but then it goes up and down like a whores draws most of the time anyways
