Hi peeps,

Anyone got a Techtom MDM 100??

These things sound great, after you get your AVCR you get a Techtom it would seem in the US.

Anyway from what I can tell they give the driver feed back on various engine parameters real time and they plug into the Nissan Consult socket. Plug and Play for the Z ;-)

I have been in contact with a guy at G-Force Engineering in the US who can provide me with one for $435 USD.

Can I get one cheaper and for people who have got them, how usefull are they?

Perhaps we could do a group by?

Here's G-Force's page on the Techtom: -

Hey mate,

Steve E is about the only guy i know with one in the UK - they are usefull but a lof of money - all depends on what you already have i guess and if you experience regular problems.

Nico,

I was just looking for another toy ;-)

I am very paranoid about my Z and I was hoping with the Techtom I could get some answers.

After having fitted and Chip upgrade I have been experiencing slight detonation. The supplier retarded timing which helped. I would just like to know what the car is doing so if there is a problem with my car I can sort it, or if there is a problem with ECU programming get that sorted.

Eddie,

I like the sound of this, just had a quick look on the G site, excellent bit of kit. My god, by the time I've finished with my car it'll be running like the DeLorean out of Back To The Future...

How large are these things ? I go to the US fairly frequently and I might be able to fit one in my luggage.

I bought one so I could constantly monitor the readings that the ecu gets.

You can display two readings at once and choose from speed, tps, O2 sensors, coolant temperature, ignition timing, power steering switch, AC switch, and a few others that I can't rememnber.

They don't come cheap but they are worth every penny especially when you run the Z engine beyond the manufacturers recommendations.

Cor Andy P you could be my man.

I think my AVCR is held up in customs which means VAT & customs duty.

The Techtom could be smaller and may fit into hand lunggage.

Nudge Nudge Wink Wink!!

Thanks Steve,

Thought so, this thread has sparked quite a response.

Soon we will all have Techtoms.

Incidentally from various searches I came across something called the Apexi Multichecker.

This is the same as the Techtom but is not quite as slimline. I am not sure if Apex sell this product anymore.

Try this site for for an Idea on what Apex had offered: -

Eddie,

The Apexi multi checker is about the size of a small calculator.

I nearly got one of these aswell but just could decide where to put it :-)

It is much the same as the MDM100 although has a few more things like 0-60 and bhp calculation.

Steve

I met someone with an Apexi multichecker the other day. The big differences appear to be that the apexi shows injector duty, very nice feature, while it doesn't show the O2 sensor readings like the MDM. The MDM is smaller, I don't know which one I'd go for...

I own an A'PEXi Multi checker (the one Jez saw) and have played with the Techtom before.

Like the Techtom the Multi checker can display 2 forms of information at any time. The first in the large part and the second as a bar graph below. It doesn't have the O2 monitoring function that the Techtom has but it does have a peak hold function which is very usefull to our ECU developer Hitec Performance for monitoring air/fuel ratios and injector duty cycle while testing on track days and dyno work.

I don't think the Multichecker is available any longer but they do come up for sale from time to time. They have to be wired into the ECU harness but this isn't too hard, and they are about half the cost of the Techtom.
