A close look at carbon fibre....

Featured Replies

oo i luv the carbon and when i get round to tarting my car up it will have the odd bit here and there

I'm going to get carbon fibre adhesive over my wheels and exhaust tips, then get some carbon racing stripes for structural rigidity.. and finally retrim my passanger recaro in carbon to withstand bigger birds without compromise.. sorted

don't bigger birds upset the cars balance

depends what he calls 'bigger' if he means jo brand style the passenger side will be buried in the tarmac

It won't make it any stronger though Dave..... :wack:

No way. i thought it would be ultra strong with it 3m sticky tape

Can't stand Carbon Fibre, but then that's probably because 99% of what you see is fake crap plastic, which is totally pointless (IMHO ;) )

...interesting stuff! Still looks like anus when people glue bits of it to their car though.

Couldn't agree with you more on that one. Once seen a Supra with bit's stuck on the front splitter, bits on the wingmirrors, spoiler etc.

Not only does it look crap, if you aren't going to use the material for it's strengths, then why bother? if you DO just like the look?? then go for a Carbon Fiber Wrap which will cost a fraction of the price.

F*** carbon fiber, I want a camera with that zoom level!!!

IMHO carbon fibre is a faze that will date your car and once its not trendy people that fitted it will be rushing to remove it,Thats why id never put it on my car.Its too stereotypical at the moment for performance cars.

In my opinion 'fake' carbon fibre is on par with the flakey bits that fall out of Satan's arse crack before he takes a dump, however genuine carbon fibre parts (including those that incorporate FRP for additional structural support); as long as they serve a purpose, when fitted to any track orientated car, get's a big seal of approval from me.

From a practical point of view you can argue the 'lighter than stock vs heavier than stock' aspect of carbon fibre or 'strength vs otherwise', all day long, it soley depends on the individual application of the part and what it's being compared with.

However from my personal perspective, if a part/panel is lighter, stronger, functional, easily replacable and doesn't require repainting once fitted, it wins it's place on the car.

The argument that carbon fibre will be going 'out of fashion' only really rings true if you're a follower of trends and if you actually give a toss about the fickleness of popular culture; and to be honest if a 17 year old Vauxhall Corsa owner from Oldham tells Max Power magazine that carbon fibre has had it's day I for one ain't listening to the muppet!

Motorsport has always inspired the modified car industry and not the other way around.

However if Jenson Button rocks up in the next few weeks with a set of 22" spinners fitted to his F1 car and a mahoosive' ICE install booming out on the starting grid, I'll happily retract my 'who leads who' statement

Carbon is like garlic bread....it's the future!

Just my two pence worth

its a good material to use in the right places and will be around for some time but there i no need to leave it unpainted and slip into that stereotypical current styling/fashion malarky. [spotter mode]the boeing 787 has a carbon fibre fuselage[/spotter mode]
