I'd say an S13 NA or a Primera eGT (saloon...hatch looks terrible) would be more 'middle ground'. Almeras look pretty dismal. Whilst the Primera wins no awards for being a funky car, it does look a lot better than the shopping trolley.

i like the almera from the front and back, i think it looks quite aggressive, i do agree that from the side it looks like the love child of a hatch back and saloon but not many jap "hot haches" if you will available for under 2k. i have always disliked anything with 4 doors.

LOL. I've never EVER thought the Almera was in anyway aggressive! Bit like saying Pingu looks 'ard as nails!

S13's dont do very good MPG at all, and most of them rust like mad. Also the NA model is Import only, and its very rare, maybe you mean the S14/a Import model? They are common Imports and are N/A

almera gti mrk 2 is the one you want my mate has a nice one in metalic blue. check the rear arches & front cross member for rust as these are the common areas to go!!

or even better go for a pulsar!!!

Yep look for rust, these tend to be quite reliable and solid cars, take abuse like nothing and are loads of fun...... ride can be a tad hard but its a GTi its expected

Good car, we get the Almera's coming in to work alot as part exchange cars, never had the GTI tho. YTS Weaze is spot on with the cross member you must check it, and because it's so common Nissan have been really nice and up'd the price on the cross member!

a mate in work has a metallic blue one and it looks real nice, i do like it, personally i think you should stick with the fto idea, its fantastic on fuel and goes well when the mivec kicks in, but if its a hot hatch your after then the almera is a good option, think the civic type R looks better and goes better but still out of your budget at the mo,

Yep, get some pics up

The Almera GTi is a nice little motor mate

When you do get bored of it though you should consider building the UK's first VG30DETT powered Almera!!! :punk:

would probably have to drop the lump in the boot mind you

that would be hard core!!!

Ref your FOR SALE thread bud......I think I spotted 62 year old Iris on the M4 last night, I reckon she's fitted NOS 'cos she was doing about 20,000mph!!!

Your other thread was closed so I thought I'd post on here. Simply staggered at how low prices are for Zs. Very, very disappointing.

^^^^^ that sadly is very true

If you think about it, you're now talking old Fiesta/Corsa/Saxo money for earlier Z32's, which in my opinon is fookin' criminal!!!

I can see that the problem is just going to get worse.

A lot of new buyers; who maybe pay £800 for their 'Z' are going to be even more reluctant to spend money on their upkeep, than they previously would have.

It does however seem that it's only really in the UK that prices have dropped rediculously, prices in the US do still seem pretty strong

I suppose we can blame the recession for some of it; if people have to sell their 'Z's then they have to sell them, it's a real shame.

We just need to raise the profile of the Z32 to bring it inline with the GTR's etc

A lot of sense said there mate and I suppose it's a lesson in both economics and life, not to mention a generational thing.

For those of us who remember the Z32 coming out it '89, it was a sensation and I for one fell instantly in love with it. As a 16 year old, I had posters up in my room and it was my dream car for years and years. Seeing one on the road was a memorable occasion. I even sat in one on the revolving Nissan stand at the 1990 British Motor Show (I recognised the stand manager as the salesman who had sold my mum her new Micra only a week earlier!).

My point is that for many of us,the Z32 commands serious respect. For us, a decent Z is worth literally thousands and thousands and I know many here have spent tens of thousands on their cars.

Unfortunately, there are also many which have fallen in to the wrong hands and are in a spiral of decline. Even insurance is now not as high as it used to be, so people who would usually drive fiestas etc. are able to buy and run these. That's not to say that there is anything wrong with that...as long as they understand and respect the heritage of the Z.

I also think imports have destroyed the market. There is simply an over supply of Z32s (compared to those who really know of them and want them) and therefore prices for the overall Z32 market have fallen as there are many to choose from. The UK has been especially hit hard as models from Japan are RHD. The US however has virtually no imports due to it being LHD, so numbers are limited. The Z is also a legend in the US.

I hate to think what will happen to the GT-R in 15-20 years time...

GTR's in general have a tendency to maintain a reasonable level of value; even through the recent recession, prices have held up relatively strongly.

As an example, back in 2007 I looked at buying a UK spec R34 GTR, most of those that I looked at were around the £30,000 mark.

Now 3 years on, £28,000 - £30,000 is still about right for an un-abused clean example.

You can pick them up cheaper but 9 time out of 10 these will have seen a bit of abuse.

To be fair the new GTR has seen some depreciation in price (from new) but that is always to be expected.

I'm guessing in a year or two; at around the £35,000 mark, prices will level out and will probably sit there for a fair few years.

The GTR is generally percieved (rightly or wrongly) as a sure thing, future 'classic' in the making; a continuance of a legend if you like.

The GTR also has a vast motorsport legacy to fall back on, whereas the Z32 does not.

Yes the Steve Millen Z32 was relatively successful in it's own right but didn't dominate in the way that the GTR did, and that's something that the Z32 never really recovered from.

For one the Z32 was first and foremost a luxurious Grand Tourer and even though they were two totally different types of car, the Z32 was always overshadowed by the more forceful GTR.

You've only got to look at the price drop in recent years, of the later Z33.

In the UK, decent mid 90's R33 GTR's are now car for car, more expensive to buy than a 6 year old 350Z, which just go's to demonstrate how powerful the GTR's pull actually is.

'Z' owners could argue until they're blue in the face about how great a drive a Z32 is and how a decent low mileage early 90's Z32 TT should be worth £10,000+ (I agree in that respect totally) however, the general opinion of the unknowing buyer is, the Z32 is a decent enough motor, which is costly to maintain (no more than a GTR I would argue), but surely, can't be that great a car, when you can pick them up these days quite easily on ebay for less than a grand.

or picked up by Top Gear for just £1500 and smashed up with the rest of the shit!

The only way that I can see, of increasing the value of our Z32's (in monetary terms at least) is to make them more desirable by increasing their profile in motorsport.

The US have Z32's competing in Time Attack and running 7 second's on the 1/4 mile.

Japan have a few Z32's competing in D1.

We need to do the same in the UK or the 'Z' mark will just be another also ran wannabe.

If you think about it, the Z32 TT is a pretty impressive base to start with (after the obvious necessary weight loss of course)

Z32's costing the same as a used Vauxhall Corsa is just wrong.

My rant over, appologies all......

Jack Daniels talking

That's decided then, all we've got to do as a 'Z' community in order to get our beloved Z32's value back up there in the crowd of classic's where they rightfully belong, is dominate the entire motorsporting industry from now on in.........

I reckon we've gone a fair way off topic on this thread though matey, doh!

'brigade' get some pics of the Almera GTi up bud
