I have recently aquired my first 300zx. It's a JDM TT slicktop. After a trouble free first 400miles i now can't get it to start. I am mechanically incompetent unfortunately:sad: So i was wondering if you guys know of anyone in the Reading area who might be able to help??

Beer tokens and tea/coffee at the ready. Really appreciate any help you can give me on this. Would like my Zed fettled with by somebody in the know and i'm pretty sure this is the place to find them.

Thanks in advance, Daffy.

Not sure of any local to yourselves, whats the problem exactly, just wont start? any funny noises / dash lights etc?

I was letting it warm up as per usual before i drove it then it just cut out on me! All lights seemed to come on as normal, the car turns over okay but won't fire.

After looking around the forum i can only assume it's ptu/cas or even immobilisor related? Unfortunately that means nothing to me.

Got a mate to come round and he checked the fuel was getting through, which it is. Then checked one of the plugs against the plenum, NO spark.

I've found the whereabouts of the ptu and cas thanks to pictures on here but don't know what i'm looking for when i get to them?!

I really wish I knew even a little bit as it's doing my head in, and feel proper useless. I'm a builder by trade but know absolutely jack about engines.

D2 services in Strood Kent seem to be the nearest to you, lots of good feedback on here about D2.

If you've found the PTU and CAS, next step is to simply clean very thoroughly the connections on these units and the wires that connect to them. A very fine small screw driver to scrape away any crud and contact cleaner or WD40.

If that still fails to start then only by swapping the PTU is a sure way of knowing it's faulty, but we can tell you how to test the CAS if she still won't start.

Or you can do this other test very easily yourself in 10 mins and should tell you the problem http://www.ttzd.com/tech/diagnostictech.html

:gunsmilie:RESULT!!!

Thanks guys. This forum is definately the place to be. Followed the advice offered here and on previous threads and to my utter surprise she started!! All for the princely sum of 99p on a pack of emery boards:cool2:

I'm off for a drive, thanks for your help guys.

Guessing it's time to call Zedworld. That's the impression i get from the forum. It's a bit of a trek though. Anyone nearer who could give it the once over first? Or i've heard Kent is nice when the suns out

Forgot to say, all i did was disconnect the ptu and cas and clean them as advised. Did try it yesterday but obviously didn't try hard enough.

OOOOPS. Went straight out for a drive and she cut out on me twice. Fiddled with both again and managed to get it going. Pretty sure it's the cas as i tried that second.

Is it okay to spray with WD40? Sorry for my lack of knowledge and dumbass questions. Just want to drive it without worrying, and far enough to get it Conzulted and have any work done that needs doing.

Cheers guys.

Electrical gremlins can be the bain of these cars, dodgy sensors and almost as often dodgy connectors and wiring can cause all sorts of problems, where there really isnt a problem!

Often best to try and clean both sides of the connectors and make sure they are nice and snug. Always nice when people have a quick easy fix!

Glad you got it sorted

I guess you aren't so 'mechanically incompetent' now eh ;)

You'll pick up various tips and tricks whilst on this forum, and a quick thread like this has saved you time and money of going to a specialist! (for now) :)

I can recommend SilverBullit and he's nice and close to you.

Sound like your PTU is on the way out to be honest

Thanks alot guys, appreciate all the help/advice. My mechanical brilliance was short lived unfortunately :crying:

Took the car out after thinking i'd fixed it, gave it a good clean as a thank you(as you do!), then she started first time only to die on me again!!! Didn't even make it off the drive.

Went through all of the above again but no luck.

Really glad to know you're only in Ascot Mark, not just because of this fiasco but really want someone who knows their stuff to give the car the once over and advise on what needs doing. And i want to see Trumpton for real

Best to get it done sooner rather than later me thinks?!

Thanks again guys, is it ok to call you tomorrow Mark?
