Afternoon all,

I have been contimplating today after much deliberating why zed's. Even though highly modified still have relatively poor 0-60 times on average?

Does anyone know, or heard of 0-60 times under 5 seconds at all?

And what were the mods done to achieve thes figures?

Regards

Kash

yes 0-60 under 5secs is very typical for basic mods - Filter, exhaust, Chip, 14psi(1bar) boost.

4.7s 0-60mph and 11.9s 0-100 were the times I recorded with the above basic upgrades in my Black TT LWB Manual. (with stock boost it recorded 5.5s and 14.1s). Measured using Nissan Datascan.

Car & Driver magazine managed 5.0sec 0-60 time with a completely stock SWB TT Manual. Although typical stock figures are more mid 5's.

I was going to say, where have you heard that they have slow 0-60 times?

Just reading on american sites Baz. Today I was racing my brother in his new 2007 slk55 amg that he bought and his 0-60 time is around 4.5 seconds. From standstill at the lights he must have been infront of me approximately a car length. But as soon as I hit 50mph and above I left him for dead! Must have been 6 to 7 car lengths in front of him.

I mean my car isnt shy.Its producing 408rwhp at the dyno last weekend. Could it be that its not set-up properly in someway?

traction? he had traction control to help him probably. are your tyres good?

The 300 is not an easy car to do 0-60 in :( No traction control or electic stuff to help. The merc probarbly has lunch control and traction control and a hole lot of electonic to help so any driver can do a good 0-60 time in that car.

fastest ever in my auto LWB before the ato box gave up was 4.7 seconds

That was with Apexi intake, Chipped EMS, boost jets to 1 bar and a mongoose cat back exhaust system

Haven't timed it in manual format yet and it's got a blown turbo at present

You've got a great spec list Kash, have you focussed attention on weight reduction at all?

  • Author

Thanks for all your help and comments lads. Baz, I haven't really thought about weight reduction before. However, I also haven't set my racelogic traction up. I don't know where I have put the software.

What would be the best way to reduce weight from the zed and give the best results?

Not too sure Peter, but basing my answer to your question from a standard twin turbo manual of approx 5.5secs. I would assume around the 7 seconds mark.

Cheers

The 300zx is massively over-engineered, and theres plenty of stuff you can remove without it having a knock-on affect to the way it behaves. Just as a quick list - Air con (if you can do without it), AIVs, EGR system, PRVR, carbon canister, sound deadening etc theres quite a few more, best of all this is a free of charge modification and will be a noticable difference to the performance! ;)

this is quite a good site for working out 0-60 its about right too, it makes alot of assumptions though, my LWB auto can do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, o.k its been on a diet but its only got 313bhp...

I just stuck my figs into that site and it seems on stock boost (with 404 fwph) my 0-60 should be around the 4.4sec mark...not too sure about that! lol...it's certainly fast but I don't think THAT fast...though I've got no evidence to suggest either way...

0-100mph - 9.5secs...

60-100 - 5.1secs

1/4 mile - 12.44secs

Sounds like you did'nt use an accuate weight figure ? For a typical LWB its around 1580kg. But with Bodykits and aftermarket wheels your looking at 1600kg+

Possibly...I just searched on here and came up with a figure of 1470kg. With the 1600kg figure the stats are:

Power to Weight: 257 bhp/ton

0-60: 4.7

0-100: 10.3

60-100: 5.6

1/4 Mile ET: 12.74

Some rough weight figures for Standard cars :

Model ------- Kerb Weight ---- Weight Distribution

______________________________________

TT LWB -------- 1580 kg ---------- 53:47

TT SWB --------1530 kg ---------- 55:45

TT Slicktop ---- 1500 kg -----------55:45

NA LWB ------- 1490 kg ------------ 53:47

NA SWB ------- 1440 kg ------------55:45

NA Slicktop ---- 1410 kg ------------55:45

NA Convertible--1540 kg ------------??

I prefer this calculator http://www.letstorquebhp.com/calculator.asp , the results are a little different but match up better to similar results I tried in reality previously.

dont forget the merc has a 5.5L AMG engine with alot of touque and big wide rear tyres in a tiny slk thats bound to launch very fast

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 404

Weight without Driver (KG) : 1580

Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 259.80

0 - 60 (Secs) : 4.50

0 - 100 (Secs) : 9.89

60 - 100 (Secs) : 5.39

Quarter Mile (Secs) : 12.69

Terminal Speed (MPH) : 113.30

Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 12.59

Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 114.57

That's what I get with your calculator Legrath....still quicker than I thought! Maybe I'm just a fatty! lol...and that's on stock boost (12psi)...I believe I should be good for 21psi...not tried it yet as suspect EBC...but that's way down the list of things to fix at the moment!

you should be chuffed your zed passed he amg merc kash they aint no slouch.go back to the top gear test where the little caterham seven blew the crap out of lambo, ferrari porche of the line it aint all about horses..
