Hi John,

I have owned a nissan 300zx twin turbo in red for over a year now and had major work/ restoration done to it. Basically it has been built to handle 750hp. just over 3 years ago. The engineering company that built it said it perviously had a stand alone apexi in it and an apexi avcr boost controller to run it to 700hp. However the stand alone apxei was removed form the car before it came into my possesion. I noticed under the passenger footwell the ecu has one of your chips in it. The chip states it has been programmed to handle 555cc injectors, stock/cam/turbos./smic *** something intake..and then your name with it.

I just wanted to know how much hp can this chip handle and if you can shed any more light regarding this matter.

Your reply would be really appreciated.

Hi Kash,

That chip is designed to run on stock turbos @15psi so not good for more than about 400bhp. What spec is the car now (turbos/cams etc.)

If it's still got 555cc injectors then it wasn't running 700bhp unless they changed them out too.

Cheers

Hi John,

That has confused me a little as the car is running at 20psi and has done with me for about a year now using the Apexi AVCR. The turbos I was told are 360 thrust ball bearing turbos which were garrets reconditioned to that spec by turbo technics. Cams are standard. However, I have a dyno printout for 457bhp from a run earlier this year.

Does any of this make any sense to you.

Using your chip at that psi am i doing my car damage?

Regards

Kash

You're certainly pushing it at that sort of boost, your right off the end of the maps and I wouldn't recommend running it that way! If you haven't caused any damage so far then you're unlikely to but I'd look at fitting a more suitable map. Also run on V-power if you can!

Just remembered John,

It is still running with the 555cc injectors. The spec for the engine rebuild is endless. Everything has been uprated/block cryogenically treated etc etc.

With all this in mind and without investing in more electronics, do you have a chip which can give me 500 rwhp with my current set-up?

Cheers.

All sounds interesting mate, you got the full spec and who undertook most of the work?

smithy

If you have some more details on the turbos I can supply something that will be better off the shelf but would really be best to get it on the dyno and set it up properly.

I have a dyno run booked in for this Saturday John.

Are there any specific questions I would need to ask them so I have the right information to pass on to you.

Thanks again.

Evening Smithy,

I shall list it all early next week. All the work was carried out by David Evenden at Evenden engineering. Top guy and a good friend of mine now. Always helpful and his work has been faultless to date.

I have a dyno run booked in for this Saturday John.

Not really, be best to ask the engine builder guy what turbos are fitted hopefully he will have more detail on them, you say they're 360deg bearings but do you know if they are stock other than that or have bigger compressors?

I think on the dyno run then you'll find that that chip runs pretty rich top end, its meant to be like that to keep things cool when people push stock turbos too far!

On hols for a week from tomorrow so PM me to remind me when I get back!

Do you have a picture of your car?. It may be know on here and if it has a JD chip it's quite likely it belonged to a previous member of the forum.

How do you upload pictures on the club mate.

I also had my dyno run this morning. The care is producing 480 bhp to the fly. 405.4bhp to the rear wheels.

Dyno sheet to prove! I will also upload that.

I am hoping after speaking with J.Dixon this will be increased to about 500bhp to the wheels.

I meant Car lads....not care! lol
