So, on Friday i Get the call "im phoning about your 300zx, is it still for sale?"

Reluctantly i say ( gulp) "yes"

next day it's gone.

But me thinks what next?

Must be at least as fast, must look like a ( real)sports car (no scooby looks).

and most of all must be under £10k

I could in the end get another Z, but it's a bit like shagging your old girlfriend, you no you will like it but you realy want something different.

Toying with mitzy 3000gto ( i know Z'S are better but i haven't had one) or late toyota Supra. The supra is edging it.

Ive enjoyed this Site, most of you will move on from your Z's. So what next.

Hope I don't get bannished from the site forever.

Rick.

awwww what a shame. You must have had a REALLY lovely Z if you can turn your nose up at replacing it with another. If I was as fortunate to have 10k just begging me to give it a new home... I'd gladly trade it in for a nice 2+2 400bhp TT with 18" alloys and more power guages than the starship enterprise.

*drools*

You do know that the Supra is also known as the tampon on wheels, do you ? ;-)

Anyway..whatever you buy I hope you enjoy it !

I will have pid for my Z in September next year and after that will decide whether to change theZ, get another or keep mine for a bit longer...If I change I'll get a newer one, or if I decide to change the car it'll be a Supra.....Dunno yet.....Difficult choice! Prices are coming down all the time!

Hmmm the choice of a 3000GTSLOW or a Supra

I guess its like do you go for the half decent lookin bird or the rite minger thats alright in the sack.

hmmmmm...

BTW both in NA form are slow as shite your old Z would lamp em - if you have to buy one make it a TT or else....

Z Ya'll

...having owned a Supra(G plate) I say...SUPRA twin turbo monster. I'm sorry but I do hold a special feeling for me old Toyota even though I own a Z. Only reason I bought a Z and not a Supra was simple...Z is cheaper, now I know why!

Let's not go there again...BLAACCCKKKK!

Wibble........

Rick,

little tip here ;)

as Nico suggests, if you have to get one of those other vehicles, then make sure it is a twin turbo version

GTO is nice looking, but heavy and slow, techo laden for no reason, and very very hard to upgrade past a certain point

Supra is, a Supra. Like a 2 wheel drive skyline gtr in my opinion ;) slightly dodgy on the looks department, easy to make into big power, but will always look funny

THEN

visit www.twinturbo.co.uk and use the forum that is on that site. It is slightly 300ZX biased, but the domain is right ;) and the guys are all friendly

I'm in love with my RX-7. I know I couldn't keep up with a Z but it's £3K and imaculate. Predictable power slides and plenty of room for mods. It is 300KG lighter or 4/5 the weight of a supra. Get a test drive before you write it off.

GTO is not slow and heavy, I tried as hard as I could to pass on a dual carriageway in my Z when I had it, no chance of passing him. Kept up with him, don't get me wrong, but I was not going to take him...FACT!

My car 91 TT Auto., his car GTO TT manual.

Thanks to those of you who gave an unbiased reply,

i would only go for the twin turbo versions of any car that had the option.

I know what you are saying about Skyline-GTR.

But the Supra seems to be the latest car out of this ilke.

Road tests of the Z and 3000GT0 identical performance when standard but give the Supra the edge.

I don't realy want to tune any car i get. The reason for this is that nearly all the people that phoned about my Z were looking for a standard one and I sold it in a week for almost 6 grand.

I was a Realy nice one, but it was still 11yrs old.

After going to a jap auction a few weeks ago i knew i could replace my Z for £3500.

I saw a Supra 94 go for £4650.

don't that make you think? it did me.

What about the Lexus soarer anyone got any idears on them?

There cheap.

Food for thought.

Rick.

Ahhh Rick,

Now you're really rubbing my nose in it! I looked at all these cars b4 getting my 300, Soarer was top of my list, as I was already in a G reg Supra Turbo I made a point of checking with my local Toyota dealer if they were now servicing and repairing Soarers. Good news for me, they were, also doing MR2 Turbo's etc.

Just didn't really do it for me in the looks department, looked at GTO's but noticed some pretty ropey imports knocking about, plus no Auto. TT's which was important for me.

People on here will slag Supra's off but I recently read a cracking review in EVO mag. about buying these cars now. The advice they were giving was that more people are now buying the imports and that more peeps are going for the manuals as opposed to the autos? Plus they were saying that the options and different specs were much better in Jap land(as usual) with the RZ versions etc. They were going on about the 18 inch wheel big breaks versions saying that if you buy a UK car and convert costs 3000 grande just for the brakes. Other advice they were giving was 20K buys you a storming motor, but be very warey around the 10K mark. Also get the one with self activating FRONT and rear spoilers. Front fitted spoiler was only ever a factory fit option.

And to all of those who don't think the Supra TT is upto the job? 320 bhp as standard and reviews that call it a "GTR beater!" sell it to me in my book... I rest my case, only reason I didn't buy one is price but by the time I have finished with my poorly Z I probably could have bought a GTR/SUPRA anyway...nevermind, that's just the way things go I suppose.

REZPECT

Nice one Tim, i'm hunting for info on the net, road tests ect i'll try what Craig said TT.NET.

I don't want to knock the 300z, F*&k me it was the best motor i've ever had. Just trying pastures new.

If anyone thinks Z'S are unreliable you should have had my Lancia.

Rick.

oops..

my link was twinturbo.CO.UK not .NET and it points back here.... ;)

Timmy...

GTO ? I have taken out a couple of those...

hmm.. i drive a manual.. surely not the only reason i took them ? under 70 or so, pretty even, but you can easily outstretch them through 3rd, 4th and 5th from 60 upwards

I looked at all of those other cars as well, seems to be a common window shop list before you settle for one of them... bear in mind i was looking 2 years ago...

GTO had ZERO rear legroom, which counted out in my book cos of kids, although i really like the look of them :(

Supras were too expensive 2 years ago, and despite my admiring their build and capability, they are still ugly (imho) and no rear legroom again, plus, at the time i knew two supra owners who had bad attitudes...

soarers... i looked, at 2.5 TT and 4.0NA, wasn't convinced about the styling, and Lexus seem to depreciate quicker than most of the others..... although, that means nothing with the massive import market now.

they do have lots of toys inside though...

skylines i looked at.. too much money :( but now that i have the Z, not sure if i would have a gtr or not... even if i could afford it.

rx7's ? when i was looking i only saw about 3 for sale in the country (new model) and so to me they were too risky.. nice looker though.. especially in black

oh yeah, and i took on a boxter the other week, and pulled away every time... i even slowed down enough to make sure he was with me off the corners and roundabouts.. didnt want him saying it was unfair....

all of these cars have pros and cons, i am just sharing what i feel my ones are...

Z every time.....no question.

Nuff said.

I blew away a boxster the lights today, very funny! he had a nice bit of fluff in the car and was trying to show off.....BIG mistake.

Nevermind, he won't be doing that again.

And the Z is a winner, Stlye, Looks, Desirability, Credabilty and pound for pound the best...IMHO.

I love my Z and it loves me right back.

:o)

I've heard B&Q do some good sheds!!!!! :)

Have you seen the dashboard on Supra's - god I feel sick at the thought.......

3000gto - not bad but as people have said, very heavy and a lot of extras to go wrong - engines and gearboxes are SERIOUSLY unreliable as well!!!

RX7 - can you afford an engine rebuild every 50K miles???

Sorry to be so biased but the true fact is - Zeds may be a little bit costly to run but not as much as the other cars putting out anywhere near the same power! Like I say though, I'm not trying to put a downer on any other cars - honest.

Andy

Determined to get the last word on this...

Toyota has it in the reliability, looks and performance department, don't care wot anyone says...that's a fact which is why the Supra's are holding their value.

Lexus, who won JD Power poll this year??? I rest my case.

RX7 TT, I must agree, I was looking at them too as they are well affordable now, but if you look on some of the O/C sites! My God, they are one very, very delicate motor. Statements like "What ever happens, NEVER LET YOUR RX7 OVERHEAT...EVER!!!" are worrying to say the least. Plus, when you look through the ads and keep seeing "Just had new engine" is also very worrying. I've heard that they're still going with the Rotary Henry Wankler for the RX8 and new RX7 due out soon...will they ever learn?

Lancia...pahh, I know what you mean, I own one! Beta HPE, Y reg with only 43,000 miles on the clock. Has now been standing in my garden for over two years now. Not in bad nick as Beta's go, bodywork wise, but about as reliable as a Virgin train arriving on time!

Rick, starting to think about getting a Beetle now then? Try out www.carsurvey.org website and see what real owners have to say.

Good luck mate,

Tim

;-)

oh yeah... i forgot to add my Lancia .02

i had a Beta, Beta Spyder, and Monte Carlo Spyder... i must be a sucker... ;)

never any reliability problems... more like getting blown away by anything that can do more than 120mph....

and stopping the monte carlo was always a bit of a mission...

Craig mate,

You had a Monte Carlo? What happened to it? They were wicked looking motors, like a Mini-Me Ferrari...they're worth some monty money now...

Anyone ever own a Stratos?

My baby Brother had a Beta Coupe which is probably why I bought mine, he paid 250 squid for it years ago. Was his first car and went like stink...well for 250 quids worth of motor anyway!

Tim

;-)

I'm hankering for a AJPV8 Chimaera next or the TVR Tuscan. My company are even willing to buy one for me, how nice!

The trouble is, I get in the Zed, it's 11 years old and I still can see no reason to change it. It simply does it all for me. When it doesn't I take the Caterham out!

My brother and I were in Taunton the other Saturday and we raced each other from Taunton down the A308? to the M3. Great road!!He was most perplexed when I belted past him (2.7 Boxster)on the inside at 140+ (allegedly!!! On a private racetrack!!!)

My Brother has known for some time that my 6k car can kick his 43k car up the arse!!!!

I still like his Boxster tho'.

Simon

Hi,

I would think that a 2.7 Boxster would be easy pickings for a TT 300ZX.

I can outdrag a 2.5 Boxster on my daily commute in my NA!
