Just had a phone call from nissan and they have said that their diagnostic machine has told them I have a faulty noc sensor( not sure of the spelling!! ). WTF is this sensor

and what is its purpose? Would this part have an effect on the timing of my Zed causing it run bad and misfire? Thay say the part is £150.00 . Is this something I can install myself?

Any thoughts please guys?

knock-sensor maybe ? (aka detonation sensor)

Never heard that this could cause misfire and rough idle though..

It does affect the timing and restricts the boost to maximal 7psi..

To fix it there's this neat little quick and dirty trick from H. Le Hir... ;-)

V bad news.

The knock sensor is the Detonation sensor - it listens for detonation in the engine - all it will do if fails is cut your boost back and retrad the timing a little via the ECU . The part is cheap enuff - i was quoted 80 quid last year but the engine needs to come out to fit it. Follow Henri's guide on www.zhome.com as Lymon suggests if you cannot afford the 650 labout to replace.

I would suggest that you double check to make sure that the Detonation sensor is infact working - it is just responding to something that is going wrong elsewhere.

henri's article is well worth the read.

Thanks guys,

Just spoke to darren at ancastor and booked my car in. Hopefully he can resolve the problems on my Zed. He did agree that it may be worth doing this trick you have suggested with the wiring on the faulty sensor.

...bloody 'ell Henri, "we're not worthy...we're not worthy!"

Just read your article on how to frig the det. sensor. How do you think about working something like that out? You should be working for NASA!

Excellent mate.
