Haha that's my bro - possibly the dryest sense of humour you'll ever find in a man but he absolutely loves it :D

Cheers guys, dying of man flu so had last night and tonight off to try and recover (got an ear infection in both ears and my throat and feel like crap) but standard shocks and springs arrive in the post tomorrow then i'll get cracking changing them over, cleaning up the discs and pads and bleeding the brakes off.

Ordering a smaller inline fuel filter tonight so should mean the wing can go back on Thursday night and i'll have fitted the speedo sender by then too/hooked up the reverse light/refitted the interior too so by the time i get to the weekend we should be pretty much ready for the MOT next week. Just need to wait for that V5 to come back and organise the insurance through Adrian Flux

nice one Nick great to see it moving under its own steam. had to laugh though, 1:00 into your vid was just like the film Highwaymen with the squeaky car with one headlight that likes to run over people!

Haha or stephen king's Christine

Cheers buddy, we'll have to organise a meet once it's on the road and get the regulars out :)

Okay big update from today! :) I've been dying of man flu till this morning so needed to get some fresh air so started work on the car this morning and done 14 hours straight with a couple of hours for some food and a sit down.

Okay so over the course of the week i've been buying in bits i need to get the car finished off for its MOT this week. From left to right: Tremek TKO500 Ford Sender Unit (yes it's a mustang box, bolted to a chevy in a nissan :D lol), Exhaust Manifold drilled bolts (you use safety wire between the pairs to stop them shaking free in drag racing/nascar), inline -6 fuel filter and the big white box is the two standard TT shocks and springs I was very kindly donated by Mikey Bean (cheers Mikey! :))

So 9am-12pm I spent working on the problem side, the passenger wing area. The discs were covered in 5 years of rust, the paint had started to come off the suspension and the calipers needed freeing up so i pulled the whole lot apart, cleaned everything with a wire brush, painted and reassembled:

Next job before reattaching the wing was remove the huge oversized truck filter and replace it with a racing high flow filter:

Much neater! (the braided hose behind is the clutch bleeding line:

Wing on, lining on after being cleaned and everything torqued up to spec. While the wheel was off i started bleeding the brakelines off. I don't know if you've tried this on a car that's had dry lines and calipers but it takes a bleeding age. Finally i got there and popped the wheel on:

Yes i know it looks like a 4x4 but believe me there was an inch of clearance between the subframe and the road and i need every inch i can get to make it useable on the roads:

Later on and i'd done the same the other side:

Lights fixed and everything working electrically apart from the reverse light but enough for today after 14 hours and time for a beer :D

looking fantastic mate, ive been trying to decide if im going to stick the vg back in my shell once its restored or go down the v8 route. i have a lexus v8 in the corner that was going to go into my s14.

one question, how did you clean up the overflow tank so well

  • Author

Cheers buddy :) There's a couple of people on here that have done a VQ45 conversion which are easy to get hold of and they have all the bellhousing adapter plans to mate it up to a standard 300zx tranny so that would be a good option if you wanted to go the modern V8 route (John Dixon and Friday on here).

The overflow tank was a bit of a fluke really, that's how i got it! The neck does come off though and i would say filling it and soaking it in rad flush overnight would probably do the trick then get a bottle brush out in the morning and giving it a good scrub before you flush it out.

Nice work Nick,I would check out that inline fuel filter. If the view area is glass then it should be O.K.If it is like the one I fitted which was plastic don't fit it as mine expanded with heat and sprayed my engine bay with fuel=Not Good LOL.

WOOHOO!-I gotta get a Zeeeeeee...........................

Well done Nick must get to meet with the regulars!

Soon as this car's on the road i'll be organising a meet. It's been over a year since i last saw everyone and more if i count you :D

glad i could help nick:) looking great just hope it passes the mot:)

Mate, you're a star - finished the brakes and suspension today and it's a little high at the front but better that than scraping the floor and the shocks are nice and firm so more than good enough to keep me going till i buy some of those coilovers you have :)

Right folks, brakes are complete, suspension is painted and tracking is now done roughly. Another vid to wet your appetite till i finish putting the body and lights together then i'll do a walkaround :)

Dont think much to your dash nick, Plus you have fitted your steering cowel totaly wrong

Lol, Shut it you - I thought mechanical stuff took priority over a pretty dash :p lol

Fitting the speed sender and reverse wiring tonight so the interior can go back in then :)

Because the subframe and rack are 2" lower those arms were made up by the previous owner to connect up level. I can understand the idea behind it but the proof's in the pudding when I get on the road! Seems to be nice and solid up in the air and driving round the driveway :)

Well just got off the phone to the insurance company and had a quote back of £870 fully comp which isn't bad for saying this thing'll putting down 450-500bhp.

I also rang a company that specialise in hotrods and they've already said they can beat that by £100 and he's on the phone to the underwriters to see if he can save me any more so looking good to be insured by tomorrow! :hyper:

Great news, just got off the phone and haggled a bit and managed to get a MODIFIED CLASSIC policy for £748 fully comp with everything declared for an agreed value of £8000 and cover for UK and Europe over 3000 miles.

Not bad for a 450-500bhp car with a 6.3 litre engine :)

So i get my 9 years no claims to use on the day to day car which'll save me money in the long run.

Very chuffed with that and i'll be booking the MOT for Thursday now, popped up at lunch and quizzed him on the fact i was awaiting a V5 form and he says it makes no odds, he'll MOT as a 6.3 litre carburetor engine which means no emissions just a visual smoke check for an engine of its age and apart from that everything is new so shouldn't fail on anything :)

  • Author

Cheers Gary, i'll try and get some video as i'm on the way to the test :)

Back to work for me tonight so i'll be fixing that leaking brake hose connector, connecting up the reverse light and speed sender then start refitting the interior and we're about ready to go :hyper:

  • Author

Cheers buddy, got all the paperwork through yesterday but still need a club valuation and photos to complete the policy.

Okay little news update, finally managed to buy a pipe flaring tool last night and recut and flared the brake pipe last night so after a quick test there doesn't seem to be any more problems with leaking brake fluid but i'm going to rebleed everything tonight then do a proper test all round top check for leaks but when we jacked and tested all the wheels earlier this week they all put a decent amount of force onto the wheel to stop it turning so fingers crossed that should be it now!

I'll be back on it tonight trying to get everything finished off but obviously it won't be MOT'd this week now so i'll aim for monday all being well.

More to come as it happens but nearly there now!
