Weird one this I think chaps.

My car is idling at about 2k revs from cold, is this normal?

Main reason for this is, I'm out in my car now and when I'm putting the air con to have any kind of heat in it, its just stinking the car out. Any thoughts guys?

what rpm does it settle down to when warm?

the smell is from bacteria in the aircon system... get your aircon flushed and regassed and it should sort it.

Surely regassing will make no difference as it is a sealed unit!

It settles down when warm to just over 1k revs on the dial.

anybody in scotland know of a place good for re-gassing before trying this bomb idea which im not so keen on.lol

ok, anybody got a pic of where the air con is located:(

update on this........... i didnt do the bomb thing. Stuck the original mats in teh washing machine as the passenger side was abit pongy, i thought just dirt or something but no...........

Driving the car today and (have no mats in the car yet) after pulling away i heard like a water drip, stopped, looked round and passenger side carpet was wet. Pulled off and watched and more water came out, so i have a leak coming from somewhere and its sitting somewhere in the passenger side above the footwell, its not the glovebox tho.

Going out to try and remove as much as possible to see where the water could be getting in. Doesnt appear to be any water paths coming from the window down so im not to sure where it will be but will strip as much back as i can and have a look. Will update on my findings, if i find anything.

hello guys.

ok, got the glovebox out to have abit more access to under the dash to feel for damp areas etc.....nothing. so i was just poking around feeling what cold hold the water.

As i thought it was the air con being smelly, i removed the plastic tubing point to the feet.

Low and behold water!

The inside was wet and when i removed the passenger side peace the main centre section was also wet. So i stuck the air con on....water came out the drivers side and not the passenger side instead. I also stuck my hand up the middle of the car when i assume the pipe for air con comes in before branching of to passenger and drivers seat footwells, this also had a wet carpet there.

Was wondering if use guys have ever encountered this, what could have caused this all of a sudden and how to resolve it. Is it a dashboard out job?

No its not curry, its a stale damp smell, oviously as my carpets are soaked aswell now.

Internals of the plastic air con tubing are soaking and carpet is wet a couple inches back before the main incoming pipe branches off to passenger and driver footwell.

its right the price of an air con re gas has risen a lot. you can pick up one of those bombs for a few quid. probably worth a go first. might just save some money.
..

your first priority is finding the leak, or how you have water ingress, the next is getting them carpets dry so you don't rot your car from inside out.

The carpets will be dry in an hour under an hour buddy, meantime stuffed newpaper down.

The smell is the coolant, smelt the dipstick there and its the same smell as inside the car, which is stinking, i dont have a high level of coolant, tho now wanting to stick more coolant in the car if its just going to come inside.

Appears..........my heater matrix has gone.

So im going to require a new one now and somehow attempt to get it fitted myself.lol.

To be honest you would be better of doing a bypass on the matrix for now as you will not need the heater for a few months, then get Jeff to put the new one in when you are next off shore as it looks like a pure bitch!

yeah yeah i know. you where correct o wise one. But if you think that coolant smells like curry i certainly wont be having one down your local chinese.lol.

Just an update folks.

3 and a half hours later, i had the original pipes off, now ripped, and a large bypass hose fitted. I will need to source a better one tho as im not sure of the temprature rating for this hose and its kind of soft when the cars warm.

But good thing is the bypass is finally in place after alot of blood was shed.lol.

feel good tho that its sorted, went to halfrauds and got a 5litre tub of coolant and topped the resevoir and rad up:D! Just got to put my interior back together at somepoint.
