A very lucky fellow zedder today, on route to catch a ferry to Calais and a long drive ahead to Luxemburg and onto Serbia found the following horrific fracture in his near side rear wheel when checking tyre pressures during the first leg of his journey.

The damage is completely through the spoke and meant the centre and outer rim have become a seperate item at that point, a shame I could not catch it with the camera but when the wheel was held up you could see light right through the fracture!

A quick detour and we sorted him with a replacement wheel for his journey, and when talking with him he remembered a water filled pothole a day or so ago catching him out on that side.

Shudder to think what could have been on the motorway!

I agree on that one, my front right shocker is knackered thanks to a deep pothole, only been on the car a month:cursing:

The car might have made it, but after knowing its there is a different matter, lucky escape really from what could have been.

Totally agree. It's been 3 months since all that crap weather ruined the roads and I still see almost as many potholes now as there were then. Does it REALLY take that long?

Road tax increase, yet still the potholes, and why do they always do road work during the day? surely doing it at night with less traffic would be quicker and less disruptive?

The workers who carry out the repairs command a wedge as it is, they prob get double time to work at night.

Whilst we're on the subject - remember to torque up your wheels properly guys, as my dad found out the other day over/undertightening wheel nuts (well studs in this case) isn't a good idea.. His wheel came off (all 5 studs sheared at the thread ends) the front of his pug coupe, luckily it was at a roundabout at 10mph, and not during the hour long 70mph journey he just did. We'll be questioning the garage involved during the wheel bearing change on that wheel a fortnight ago.

Glad it's sorted, Serbia has nice motor between Belgrade and Nis but most of other roads are worth than ours. So he would have been in real trouble.

And you don't see many 300zx's out there either let alone replacement wheels.

That's because only 5% of people actually put in a claim due to all the stuff you need. i.e. witness, picture or hole, size of whole and dimensions etc.

If at least 50% of people claimed then it would cost less to fix the roads.
