Yup gonna be a boost leak unless you've been playing around with the Idle control Valve.

Your ECU is in lerning mode so it will be a little lumpy to start with, but shouldn't be hunting too much.

Not played with anything mate, only with the idea of torching it:glare:

Na only kidding.

Thought it would poss be a boost leak, and so emptied both my garages last night to see if i could find my detector..............and i did:clap: but this was 10.30pm and could not be arsed to try finding the leak!

Been thinking:scared: [ever so quite @ work!]

I have twin pops and i relise i need to block up one side to carry out the check but any hints on what i could use.

I have just come in from the warehouse where i cut out a circle of mdf, but looking at it now, here on my desk not sure this would actually work.

Cant wait for work to pick up cause all i am thinking about is this car and how to go about sorting it out:wacko:

Right i have attended to the boost leaks but car still hunting, attached the conzult to see if that gives any indication all seems normal except when i do an idle test it shots just out of the green then dips back into the red.

Also try and do a balance test and when it gets to no2 car stalls any thoughts peeps:mellow:

still got boost leak!

or injector not working hence it cuts out? have a listen to the injectors using a long screwdriver to the top of the injector & hold to your ear ..u will hear them clicking away check them all!!

but hunting tends to be boost leak! check gaskets between throttle bodies..also the idle valve on the back of plenum has a gasket..ballance bar etc ...use wd40 with engine running & spray around gaskets pipe joints etc u should see it suck the wd40 in or the revs might change!...

Do u mean its not boosting atall? If its not a boost leak could it be ur maf? Just I think I had a similar problem and it was my maf

No........... revs going up to around 1300 drops down to 500 ...up....down...up... down, no boost leaks now as i have attended to them all [except the smallest of leaks back of engine which you have a job to hear]

Checked all connections they seem fine, but will remove them again and check.

Get this sorted and my pas and i will be happy as a pig in $hit:rockon:

Idle control valve nackered? But it certainly does sound like a boost leak. This happened to me on my first one with dump valves installed? Check those leaks u originally found as with 5bar stick in u might have made it worse, get the hoses changed.

Spent over 4 hours sorting out boost leaks none present....double checked, like i said small one at rear but you can hardly hear it....injector hiss is louder.

The small one might just be enough to do it, best to get it changed. If its not a boost leak, not sure if its common for them to play up or whatever but maybe the idle control valve

I so want to take some time out and just get myself over to yours to sort these issues out for you.

It's starting to sound like a misfire now. Especially if when you do a conzult cylinder test it fails. I'm scratching my head on this one.

And me:blush::surrender:

I have a spare bedroom:thumbup1:

It must be something silly, only happened since engine refitted.

I must have a bad connection on one of the plugs....although wouldn't the conzult pick that up?

Still nearly there just need to sort this and the pas, and i have been passed a few other things to try that could solve it.

All the injector and coil pack connect plugs are only a couple of years old and were wired into the existing harness.

The PTU & CAS connections are pushed in correctly right?.

It's worth checking for the injector clicks first. Then I would personally then disconnect a coil pack one at a time and see if the engine tone changes.

If it doesn't then take the coil pack and plug out disconnect the fuel pump relay and put the plug in the coil pack, connect it up and earth it on the plenum while someone cranks the engine. Check for a spark. No spark, then you need to test the wiring to make sure that it is getting a signal from the PTU.

If I remember righty the injectors have a constant live with an earth pulse to fire them. I'm not 100% sure if this is the same way that the spark plugs are fired.

Either way I'm sure you just have an electrical issue with the hunting. I can't see it being a compression issue or a faulty plug / injector / ptu.

So you dont want my spare bed then:winkiss:

Again thanks Stu will try the weekend:cool3:

In all honesty mate, I really would like to come down and help out and if it wasn't for my two year old I would come over this weekend, saying that... if it wasn't for my daughter I probably would have never sold silver streak in the first place lol.

Internet / phone line support is the best I've got at the moment. :(

check the pipe that goes from plenum to idle control valve as mine was hunting last night & it had a small split in which was enough to make it hunt!

Also try and do a balance test and when it gets to no2 car stalls any thoughts peeps:mellow:

If it only stalls on number 2, then the other five are not working properly. Not being condescending but are the plug and injector leads on correctly. These engines do not sound much different with a misfire when the car is stationary and infact when being driven the effect will not necessarilly be felt dramatically. I also think you may have a vacuum pipe off somewhere which is why it is hunting.Another check you should make is with the two connectors at the right hand side at the rear of the engine. One I think is for the IAV valve and the other is for the........cant remember, but the plugs are the same and can be inadvertantly put back on wrongly. What a minefield these engines are.
