Well, i expected it to fail, what i didnt expect was it to fail on the things it did lol

1. head light on passenger side not illuminating (i knew about this anyway as i didn't get time to change the bulb)

2. horn not loud enough to be heard by other road users lol

3. excessive corrosion to seat belt anchorage point on drivers seat

4. excessive corrosion to seat belt anchorage point on passenger seat,

5. excessive smoke of any color.

6. number plate bulb failed to illuminate (oops stupid not to check that)

7. front offside brake binding

8. front near side brake binding.

And two other points that i cant remember at the moment, but I'm getting a quote for the work that i have to go back for at 2pm will grab the sheet as well. RGS have said the turbo has blown, so will defo need to get them swapped over.

had some advisories as well

rear bushes worn but not to the point of excessive play.

rear brake pads waring too thin

rear tires close to legal limit

brake pipes have corrosion.

all in all, not to bad really lol.

not to bad mate, a bit for you to do, but i'd say the main concern is the corrosion on the anchor points, any idea how bad it is on the brake pipes?

Well tbh i didn't see any rust under where the anchorage points would be, and inside doesnt look rusty at all, i asked them to point out where it is, but he said he wasn't sure as he wasn't the tester so hes not sure where they spotted the rust. i do know its on the advisory sheet from its last MOT but didn't fail on that last time around, unless they are trying for some work.

brake pipes are easy to be honest, as its the ones that go from arch to caliper. looks like surface rust but ill replace them anyway when the calipers come off to sort the binding out.

What you thinking then another test elsewhere to confirm? ....and i had the same with all the rear brake lines, had them cleaned and treated and went straight through on re-test, hope you get it sorted mate

well from the last MOT (2008) to this one, the car has done less than 100miles, so going to get the quote then bring it back and have a good look my self. but its definitely turbo swap time.

Yep have a good luck mate, thje garage in question my side said the lot was badly corroded, upon a second opinion though they where found to be clean under the surface rust and solid throughout checked them lately with standing and they still look good, suppose i'll find out next month though ;)

Not a bad price i suppose, £700 for the turbo change, caliper refurb, and welding.

the 2 other points missing from above, are

exhauast emits excessive level of metered smoke for a turbo charged engine

and

Emissions not tested

was out at the car, and im now wondering if they where trying to do a fast one, my rear number plate illuminates fine?

a question to any MOT testers out there, why would binding breaks be cause for a MOT failure? and how can you tell during a MOT? (they worked fine driving to and from)

also on a 300zx where is the location of this fail

offside and nearside (inner sill) seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded.

inside the car where the seat belt is bolted to the car is fine?

so is under the car?

they can tell there binding 2 ways one when they jack the car up & spin wheels.

two, when they put it on the brake rollers it would measure some resistance! as for the anchor point is it not rusty under the car?

nope, had it on a 2 poster on Friday fitting the new zorsts so had a goooood look. the MOT was Saturday. surely seat belt anchorage is just that, where the seat belt is anchored to the car, got quoted 65 a side to repair, not fussed about the cost of welding, just want to know if they are making up jobs. as said the rear number plate lights up but it failed on it not working.

it says where attached to seat: so does it mean the seat belt harness where it bolts to the seat itself might be rusty?

with brake binding, am i looking at a caliper rebuild? or is there something else to do? pads are rather new.

you could just take the pads out & try to free them up by working them out then using 1200 grit paper & some wd40 around the cylinders just to free them up ...this worked on my crx fine

i would do the brakes & the other REAL fails & take it else where

Agreed, they're probably trying to get a few extra quid out of you mate. Why not pop up to Zedworld? they do MOTs don't they?

stick your head in & have a geek as thats all he would of done so if he can see it so should anyone else...im doubting there is anything wrong with them!

excessive corrosion in a 'prescribed area' — within 30 cms of certain safety related components, e.g. brakes, steering, suspension, seat belt mountings etc.

maybe this might be what he meant??? is there rust within a foot of the seat belt anchore?

nope, and i cant find on that site where it says binding is a cause for failure in brakes.

Sorry to hear that Vods.....

.....I hope you get it sorted and back on the road with little fuss and not too much cost.

As for MOT questions, drop PaulC a line - he's a tester and will give you a straight answer!
