High Temp!!

Hi Guys, thought i'd get this down now 'cos i'm up at 6 and off to Windsor all day on sunday, so it'd be nice for some advice when i get back. Went out tonight to a do, all fine. after about 5 miles on the return journey my oil temp gauge in the pillar shot up to 125 Deg, usual is between 85 and 95, i was not driving aggressively. i pulled over to the hard shoulder and turned the engine off but still on Acc which kept the gauges on. looked under the bonnet and could see or smell anything out of the ordinary. Back inside and cycled the gauges (digital, they do a self check ) Temp no read 78 Deg, thats more like it. Carried on the journey another 10 miles, got home but then noticed the oil temp was still at 78 deg...dam! i also noticed my oil gauge reading was down, it normally sits in the marked area approx 60 but now showed lower, say 40. not to sure this all means but if anyone has some ideas, i'll be glad to read them tomorrow night

The most obvious first, and you´ve probably already checked but what´s the oil level like?

Agreed...... check oil level, sounds like you are loosing oil, thus higher temp and lower pressure will result.

Just checked the oil, firmly between the the H and L, perfect, so, anyone got any further ideas, next would be the oil temp gauge, i'll put another one in and ass the results..now, if only i hadn't sent all my gauges to Vodkashots..

Question, if the oil temp HAD risen to 120 deg, would there be some evidence, ie smell, or anything else.
