Hi I've seen the brilliant online Service Manual but apart from the aircon section I need the day-to-day stuff - Tyre pressures, what does this switch do, what is the plastic thingy by the Gear shift and so on. Any polite sugestions gratefully received. (I had to part with my Z31)

For a start this link may be of help...... http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=41352

Red plastic stick directly in front of the auto-shifter is to release the shifter when the engine isn't running (so it can be moved for whatever reason you need it moved for!! ;) )

Switch next to the auto-shifter (assuming yours is a J-Spec import) - Labelled 'Power', 'A/T' & 'Hold' - is for the auto box....

'Power' = This position holds the gears in each gear a little longer, for power over taking etc.

'Hold' = Is for slippery conditions, ie; Snow etc. Once your gears go into 2nd, it wont let it go back down to 1st, until the switch is normalised again . Thus you get a better traction to get you out of the slippery area.

'A/T' = This is the 'Normal' position for 'Normal' driving!
