Right, have bought a car now. Whooppee

But already I have identified a problem. Boooo

Was on a motorway slip road and on a long constant radius turn at about 70mph. When I hit the expansion gap the whole rear end stepped out of line a couple of inches, which was quite unnerving. Felt like the whole rear suspension was all at sea (rocking chair on a water bed).

I dint notice this on the test drive and generally the suspension seems fine... unless you hit a bump mid corner, in which case it feels like the Hicas has decided to take a different route to the front wheels.

As you may have guessed there is no lock out bar for the Hicas yet, but I wondered if this is a common trait of worn bushes or somethin similar?

Will be getting the car thoroughly checked out soon, but maybe you can warn me what to expect?

Car is a 95 reg if that makes any difference.

Cheers:huh:

I'm not too technical to be honest mate, but it sounds like you might have some play in your hicas arms perhaps. if you can get it on a ramp you can check and see if there is any movement.

Someone with more knowledge than I will be along to shed some light.

The first Zed I test drove did a little "bunny hop" to the side scared the crap out of me on the motorway. Think it's a common problem with bushes/HICAS like Pabilto said someone with more info will be along to help.

alright mate .

How and where did you get this done please mate? I was told i would have to replace mine.

Thanks for the input

andy, when you said your's were shagged originally - what was the problem? Do they bend or warp after a while and throw the rear tracking out or somethin?

Sounds like an easy enough solution tho, so thanks for that. Need to find a ramp and poke about I guess, but tricky when you don't really know what you're lookin for.

Bunny hop is quite an apt description tho!

Hell, thought my car was entering an unofficial hula hoop competion or somethin..

A hicas lock out would probably remedy the problem too i guess. Will see how the finances look and drive slowly in the meantime.

Cheers

Worn Hicas bushs AND/OR Rear shocks

Hicas lockout bar does not generally replace the Hicar bushes. Although Driftworks do a version that does include arms that replace the bushes too.

just had a quick look on the driftworks website. the kit that replaces the bushes in addition to the lock out bars, is 200 squids. but if it makes the arse end solid, then its cheaper than payin my 500 quid excess, after my zed has tried mateing with a tree.

Thanks for the pointer.

Car booked in to zed world sat morning

So a quick trip across the A5 should identify the problem and, undoubtedly, signal the start of a somewhat expensive brake and suspension overhaul.

Will wait and see whats said. But the Hicas elliminator might not be much use if the bushes are shagged.

all comments appreciated - as always

and to you Evo...

We should meet up some time. I've seen your car once heading out towards Kilby, coming from countersthorpe way (last year sometime). Wasn't a member then, but instantly recognised the motor when I saw your posts.

Anyway, if you wanna come and check out my motor and give me your pennies worth, it'd be appreciated. Might have a quick nosey round yours too if you let me and get some inspiration!

PS - Im not a weirdo!

they were badly worn . when jacked up the rear wheels could be rocked 3 or 4 mm . driving a quick car with wobbly back wheels is not good . took the arms out and got them pressed . just like new .

another thing that was happening with mine was it tended to follow grooves in the road that wagons leave . i feared the worst but was an easy fix

Currently residing in the lovely residential area of braunstone! Just look for the plumes of smoke from burning cars on the horizon and head in that direction!

Will get myself subscribed and we can fix up a time and place.
