on taking a pic of the electric seat switch i thought i would pop off the sill plate and look if the '300zx' can be illuminated somehow, turns out these are already the ones, not connected just had two loose wires.

i cannot get any life out of it though, i will have another fiddle but wonder if they can be fixed, mainly you graham? :helpsmilie:

the condition of the sills are very scratched, don't know how the hell they have got like that!!

c'mon graham i want your views on these?

i have now taken both off and no life out of either!!!!

i need a new build, in blue i guess but i do believe these are green to match the green 300zx rear panel?

It sounds like either the invertor has gone (cheap to buy), or the EL sheets are damaged.

More likely to be the invertors as you can actually cut EL to shape and it will still work. The fact that you have bare wires touching the sill wont help

So you could either try and get some invertors or strip them, bit of perspex and led light them, up to you lol

the wires do not touch the body when i am testing, i am not that much of a numpty!!! :tongue_smilie:

i have jiggled everything about, tried every which way on both and get nothing. :sweatdrop:

i cannot do it - i don't even know what an invertor is!!!!

i have read though that these do suffer from dampness and many fail.

suggest when you do the seat switch, i send you these for doing, i know i can count on you to do a most excellent job...just name your price.

slight concern for me is the condition of them, they are badly scratched, if they are going to be lit up then to do them justice they need badly improving, will look into that. :balloon:

can i start dismantling???

I know you would have made sure they werent touching the trim when you tested them, but the damage was probably already done previously. The invertor(s) will be behind the rear pass panel where the interior light relay is, or they may have wired it with an invertor behind each panel to the door switch. The invertor converts 12vDC to 500vAC to light the EL strip, about a fag packet size but thinner lol, although may vary in size.

Yes send them to me and i will have a look, I can try to get the scratches out as well if you want.

hi. had an import few years back with illuminated sills and rear quater lights. inverters were underneath rear seats. looked like they had been fitted there as standard for that spec car.

i think for 100% certain they are not under the rear seats, you weren't to know i have a swb :rofl::rofl:

will go out in a minute and have a good luck round for them, no wonder they don't work i have only been putting 12v into them.........i am one hell of a numpty it seems!!! :headvswal

They are, but they are the ones you need, have been tried and tested before and very cheap, just got to wait the usual from HK, although i bought angel eyes the other week from HK and they arrived in 3 days.

The sills you have there are the Jap ones, Alloy by any chance?

i have viewed the 'how to' so many thanks for that.

on that there is only one inverter, don't know why i need two now?

i am thinking of getting the one or two from you so whatever you suggest.

if you pm me your paypal address i will pay that way?

andy.

For the price, your better off fitting one for each sill. Also if you have a problem with one, it wont blow both

No mate, i edited the post with the voltage in, its 500vAC, so only of any use on the EL stuff. To be honest the only thing to go wrong is the invertor or a cracked EL panel, the panel looked fine in your pic, so im betting on the invertor. But re insulate any bare wires to the sill, you dont want it arcing, otherwise bang goes the invertor lol

All fitted now, :sweatdrop: just followed the smithy 'how to' and it is simples if you take your time and give yourself good access.

3 pics attached just to show.

Of course comes off and on perfectly with the courtesy light.

Many thanks to all concerned as always. :)

Looking very nice Andy :duffer:

Most kind thank you. :balloon:

To be fair they are scratched and scuffed which to me is a mystery as to why someone as not looked after them before my ownership but I am having to work with what I have got, for now though at least I have them working.

I have fit bullet connectors so I can easily remove and refurb somehow into the future.

Thank you again.

Hi Andy, looking nice, you need the blue EL strips now to match the interior, just so happens lol

Well Graham thank you very much for those blue strips you prepared for me and they are now fitted.

Much better than the green and more importantly match all the other blue in the car as you can see.

Once more wonderfull work and service from you.

Just need the illuminated quarter glass now from somewhere!!!! :helpsmilie:

If you fancy quite a bit of laboriously going through page after page of Z32 stuff then you could look through this lot over on the Japanese Yahoo auction site.... (Google translated for you as well!)

If you want anything you can use this guy http://www.bidschoice.com who will do all of your bidding/buying for you (for a charge) as they don't tend to deal outside of Japan themselves, so it's very difficult to buy anything yourself! Both FunkySi and myself recommend this guy.
