Looks like i need a new clutch ex rps max street clutch not very well, so what do you guys recomend?

As you know car is running big bhp, but on the other hand i am not using it as an everyday car as people who know me already know:tt2: my week end toy.

Did think of just replacing friction plate like for like as clutch plate has loads of meet left on it.

ACT 6 puk has been mentioned again any thoughts??

Any clutch you go for and has the words "puk" in it, is an on off clutch and not the best for normal driving especially around town.

Whilst it holds a bit more torque than an organic disc, it does wear quicker and costs more to replace.

Also the fewer the puk's the harsher it is to drive with and even quicker it wears.

The MAX that you have is used in Zeds from around 450-550 lbs of torque

If you really want the gaurantee of long use, then most twinplates are best, but can be costly.

Paul can you replace just the friction plate and cover?

 mate not spending that much:biggrin:

More plates in the clutch will spread the pressure over reducing wear and tear so going for a twin plate clutch is probably your best bet. a single one may hold all the power for abit but will wear and start to slip

Twin plate clutches shouldnt be necessary at his end of the scale. When your talking 600rwhp + then its time to get one.A Single plate will hold his power fine.

Can you confirm what clutch it is, IIRC it was an RPS max and RPS flywheel?

Still is mate

Any thoughts guys!!!!

Looks like it will be the ACT 6 Puck but whats the pedal going to be like, a have little chicken legs lol

Why do you think an ACT 6 puck is better than what yer have fella? if your concenred about the disc, just replace and upgrade, quicker and cheaper all round or are you concerned the clutch cover is worn?

Few and far between peeps like a puck clutch thats for sure, which specific one are yer looking at? you sure it holds more power than what you got?

The one good thing about RPS is that the manufactures worked with a top US Z specialist to produce clutches suitable to all different types of power ranges, they didn't simply re produce a copy of the stock unit and say yeah, we'll throw those bits together and that will work, know what i mean

I would agree, the car has been given a fair bit of stuck to go through an RPS max clutch, although it is chucking out in excess of 550bhp, if you wanted to be ultra sure then put in a twin plate?

Hi Paul

Rps max i have has a knackered clutch cover [poss to much bhp] all i require is a cover on its own, if that can be purchased, the ACT was mentioned as a clutch to handle the power and at a reasonable cost i would be more than happy to get another rps max street as long as i know it can handle the power.

Dave

After a few launches at santa pod last weekend mine is just on the boarder line of slipping, it bites alot higher now, im hoping a little adjustment here and there might help but i doubt it :(

This is what I have as well as the flywheel to match.. but it is expensive!!! plus shipping plus import duty. http://www.hopupracing.com/rpstwdicaclf.html

Got mine for import parts pro but providing you are not going to be doing anything stupid with your car its probably over kill.

Holy cows read the warning at the bottom of this page http://www.turboclutch.com/Pages/RPS%20BC2%20Nissan.htm WTF!!!!!!!

Ditto had mine for around 3 years now, great bit of kit

I wouldn't be too worried about the disclaimer, they introduced it because of the mega high powered Skylines that were being produced and box grenading is possible with any clutch unit if you far exceed the RPM's greatly, simply covering their arses just incase.

They do however state you can throw any power at it and it won't fade and that was it's selling point and it bacame far more popular than many other twin plates on the market whilst still being streetable, which others couldn't.

the max can hold some great power mate, had it in mine for years and after 3 hours on the rollers with JD both him and the operator were impressed that with 475lbs of toque, she held really well.

There are numerous types of ACT and i don't just mean as in 6 puck, point me to the one yer thinking off. Some 6 puck clutches are only good enough for stage 2 turbo's!

But the max has now 700lbs more clamping force than a normal unit and of course yer ain't using 500bhp everyday, 80% of your driving should be normal unless your a regular tracker.

That all said, if i wanted peace of mind, then a decent twinplate is the right move and be done with it.

Not sure Paul! mjp just told me thats the make he uses when i asking him about other parts.

Dave

Search the ACT website mate and see if they do one capable of holding the power yer have before simply buying a 6 puck, so many different power levels with performance clutches.

Good luck
