My Wife has a Focus ST3 at the moment, it is a great car and she has had it for nearly two years. She got it on Ford options that means that she has to give it back or part exchange it for a new car. She has a few grand equity in it and pays £300 per month for it, they cant renew it for another year so she either needs to pay the 11K baloon or get a new car.

I took her to look at the new RS focus, she liked it but they want another 6K in plus her old car and £450 a month!!. She said that she would rather spend the difference on her horse etc so did not want to pay the extra.

Any ideas on what car she could go for that is a good family sports kind of car that is maybe 20-22K with a good residual value??.

No she wants something new or nearly new, she wanted a land rover or porsche cayenne but I told her no way as the mpg was terrible.

The new subaru STI?

My pals picking his up on thursday, get a really nice clean one for around 20k

5 doors also.

His child is due soon and he has got that as the family car.

mk6 Golf R or sirrroco R both have almost 300bhp and return more than 30mpg

the Golf R is also the quickest and most powerful golf ever with 4-wheel drive system etc etc

Anything German and diesel powered fits that bill Martin....

.....Audi A3 or Golf GT TDi perhaps? The Golf comes with the 170bhp engine and that's not a bad motor!

Or BMW 1-series.......?

Richard:yes:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Agreed, Thats where my money would go a new(ish) A3/S3, Golf R32, Sirocco, Bmw 1/3

....or a 10yr old Porsche 911 (996) :devil2:

Yep, another vote for the Scirocco here. How can she not like it lol.

Firstly - are you planning on sticking with the wife or trading her in at some point ;-)) THAT would have a major impact on the amount of investment. ;-)

Seriously - we need to know more about the person, how she drives, if she likes quality over cool, size over content? Does she drift or just go to Tesco's? How many miles a year will she do? Everything point to something German I feel.. ;-))

Just don't go the BMW route, and to a lesser extent Audi.

why? Both offer some of the best range of cars in the World.

LOL new or nearly new for £22k and she mentions a Porsche Cayenne!!! You'll be lucky mate:tt2: Actually Juila has mentioned her interest in the same car but she's too small to drive one.......

The new Land Rover Freelander 2 is a nice motor though - I'd be happy buying one of those......

To echo Legrath why? If you want a nearly new £22k car that is fairly sporty and holds its value, then an Audi, BMW Merc or VW is exactly where the smart money is........:turned:

I just seen a NEW Renault Laguna on the road today. Normally i think Renault and Citroen build horrible looking cars (like the old Megane with that stupid looking rear window and bumper that looked like supergrans wooden flying machine)

It looks stunning. from the back, looks like it has a hint of Aston Martin in it.

On the subject of BMW's, they have no character whatsoever and tend to be driven by people you would class as cocks. (hope i didn't offend anyone here, this is just a generalisation) :)
