p.s look at the bad respray finishes (lack of) on the parts that are revealed... such a shame but guy two doors down form me have a proper spray machine and mentioned that i just have to supply paint..... cant wait to give him the engine skinz :)

Im lost bud, whats so bad about that? Its a HKS fmic by the looks of it,may be a real one judging by the colour of the intercooler hoses.

well when i see others they appear to have gaps on the intercooler which allows better airr flow.. this one doesnt look like a lot of air gets through :(

would you say this has better airflow over the oem side mounts... and would this hinder air flow around engine bay too much?

no idea, the previous owner had it done before i bought it :(

as for the colour choice the previous owner loved Mg's and so got mg trophy blue sprayed on.... just a shame so little effort was put in anywhere apart from outside of car

hehehe do you a swap for my OEM SMIC :P

a week ago i would of totally don eit,, i did post up i would swap. but if these are better than i though then maybe i should wait until i get baz's oem and compare the two when running to find out which ones ill keep :P

dont want to make the zed worse but if oem mounts do a better job for a stock car then id probably look at re posting

You shouldnt listen to some of the myths bounded around, like your car will run hotter because of a front mount, series one ptus always fail,The same stuff gets repeated all the time.Do you really think HKS Didnt know what they were doing when they designed that? You noticed it slopes backwards at the bottom so it has a larger surface area but allows better airlfow. It WILL NOT be a problem if left on your car and cause overheating. Its your choice at the end of the day though.

i don't disagree with HKS but if someone who fitted it didnt do it properly... thats more of what im getting at.

but taking your advice i guess i should leave it on there then :P

i don't mind either way but i just want what is best for the car :)

also... im polishing my plenum and wondered if i could polish the intercooler hard pipes? i take it there isnt a lot i can do to make the intercooler look cleaner and more appealing?

Depends what you want out of your car mate. If that is indeed an HKS FMIC then it's a good one and they are mounted as such. Quality SMICS will be just as good. Depends what look you want. I'd personally always go for good SMICs. Not because there is any difference in through-flow of air, but because you can hide the SMICs away a little more discretely allowing you to fit different bumpers.

Flush fit FMICs look great on 99-spec / Escort Racing front bumpers.

well i must admit it was a pain as pipes everywhere. but drivers pipe is on wrong way round and so sticks out too far to put mesh on and protect it (and i realyl hate mesh)

An explanation of the difference between SMIC's and FMIC on the Zed. SMIC's are technically more suited to the natural design of the Zed engine and a longer FMIC will create a pressure drop which results in turbo lag.

I posted this link before and Legrath added some other intercoolers for comparative purposes, but after searching I have failed to find it.

Its a good informative read and I hope it gives you a better understanding.

that FMIC will FAR out perform the stock intercoolers (have you seen the pathetic size of stock IC's!) , and if its a genuine HKS then its worth a pretty penny too.

Also, it acts as SMIC's, but just fixed together- Note seam in middle, and both an inlet and outlet on each side.

The angle its mounted at offers a larger frontal surface area, and greater fin surface contact.

If it is a HKS, it will have HKS engraved at the bottom of the cooler..I used to have a HKS front mount on mine and it had HKS engraved at the bottom of it.. Otherwise its a copy I believe...
