Can anyone reccomend a good piece of software/media platform that will recognise and play these files, i have already tried vlc, quicktime, and wmp

Yep made my night mate or should i say mornin :turned: In the middle of a series and noticed a few are mkv

Vlc player plays almost all file formats with out the need for a codec pack awesome player to be honest

 

True, this is the first time its ever refused to play anything

Lol nope, I had the same problem when watching it, the mkv files it can handle, it was the audio codec that was stopping me hearing what was being said (even though it was in Japanese with English subs, I still wanted to hear it) it's the only set of mkv files I know that don't play correctly in vlc

Ps3 media server is good for ps3 streaming also, converts on the fly and you can browse all you files from the ps3 on your pc.

I find vlc can be grainy on some formats. Thats when I found the Km player. Seems to improve playback quality. Think it plays mkv but have a look.

or pick up a wdtv media centre....one of the best gadgets ive ever bought,,,,plays all 1080p mkvs on your big lcd screen,,,,,

Lol, yeah it was only the one mkv in there around half way through always been a big fan of the series as well as the various movies, i did have another older copy but it's so unwatchable now :( so i was made up when i got this new copy apart from the mkv bit! but vlc just refused to play it

 

Since i got the update from murt though it works with subs and sound :D
