got my car in the garage after spending all early morning emptying rubbish into skip,

cleaned garage floor then it took 7 of us to reverse car up a slight slope into a garage.

after putting gearbox away securely i noticed something.............. something is perhaps missing from side of Gearbox.

Think it's the neutral switch. Why on earth have you painted your gearbox red?

by the way.... can i fix neutral switch or don;t i need it? it came directly out of another members zed when their engine went

Just reminds me of this, that's all.

Neutral switch is required. The ECU uses the signal to adjust idle. I think it might be the reverse light switch. I am hoping I am not getting confused with the reverse light switch.... better that someone else confirms come to think of it.

yeah when i saw the gearbox i was a bit like........... "thats postman pat's gearbox"

cheers for the input anyway buddy, hopefully other will notice the thread and confirm to which switch it is.

will start my journal tomorrow :thumbup1:

Yes you need it. I will probably get shot down in flames but I was let to believe that when you put the car in gear the timing is advanced by this switch, in a manual when you put the car in gear the revs jump up a couple of hundred rmp due the timing getting advance by said switch.

Yes Neutral switch, and although not essential for a zed with a manual ecu as the timing is less effected than in an auto to manual conversion its nice for it to be in place.

Good news you do not need to replace it by the looks, just the cables and connector are missing. Make up a small lead, clean the connections and solder them back in place, done this many times, they often get damaged when the box is taken out and stored etc.

The switch that is broken is 100% the neutral switch.....HTH:)

The car will run without it, but it will idle a little higher than normal because the ECU will alter the timing thinking the car is in gear.

Best to wire it in, but I believe there are quite a few not wired in when auto/manual conversions are done.

Central20 spoiler. Very rare spoiler and very sexy. You can still buy them in Japan....but you'd be shocked at how much they retail at.

so basically about the only good looking thing on my car?

i still like your exhaust and im desperate to leave this HKS exhaust in for a DUal exhaust set up. :(

Nothing wrong with your car at all! I'd probably change the front bumper and fit the 99 tail lights. :)

Yeah, single exhaust isn't pleasing to the eye and I don't think they sound anywhere near as sexy as a dual. :)

Hope you find a good-un. :)

yeah ive been looking at what front bumper to fit and i would like the tail lights...

whats the best way of getting the tail lights? I saw a post with you in about LED but they were out of my price range for a long while..

what sort of price am i looking at for 99 tail lights?

  • Author

never mind :) found some on Zcentre. will save cosmetics for when the gearbox and engine is sorted me thinks to keep it simple..

i definitely want the rear perspex that goes above the tail lights :)

£330 all in.

Best mod you can do to the arse of a Z. Totally updates it and IMO, think for the price you pay and the amount of real estate it transforms, it's pretty reasonable.

Your front end is gonna be difficult. It's got an FMIC at a funny angle, so you're limited. Personally would fit upgraded SMICs which are just as good and a more stealthy front end. Stock TT bumper with the Stillen GT-Z extension would match your skirts. :)
