anyone know how i can get a fluorescent light in my garage without wiring up switches?

just want to get one in there that uses a plug so i can run extension down there when i need it.

if this is not viable then can someone else recommend a fairly cheap alternative so that i can work on my zed in the garage come day or night?

something bright enough that can plug into extension. garage currently has no light or power without me running cable down there

cheers

You can screw the light fitting to the garage roof as normal, wire a cable in as normal then put a 13amp plug on the end of the wire, really easy, so is wiring it to a switch lol, but thats the easiest way.

were they easy to fit? The garage cieling is pretty much asbestos so thought of maybe mounting it on the wall..

p.s where is the cheapest place to pick one up?

cheers

Do you not have ceiling beams? screw to the wall is fine, wiring is as easy as a 13 amp plug, infact easier, cos you have more room in the fitting for the cable.

You can get them from B&Q, or any local electrical suppliers

yeah i have ceiling beams but it was a gym and so has boxing bag brackets permanently bolted in.

i will have a ponder at screwfix and b&Q today :)

Very easy to fit and wire up, and i can only say b&q as mine where free!

i went to screw fix today and asked them what i needed as there were so many things and they said "dunno" which doesn't help. i think at this rate i will buy a site light and hang it from the beam! :(

once i find out what parts i need ill give it another go,

any ideas as?

would one or two of these be enough? cant see them being bright enough for night time engine work

nah cant imagine they would be bright enough to be honest.

get a 5 foot fluorescent fitting, that would be a good start. Although if you are working on the car at night you'd still need a lead lamp or something thats mobile so you can light up the dark areas.

Screwfix aren't much use for giving advice, but I'd have thought you want something like this :- http://www.screwfix.com/prods/20283/Lighting-Lamps/Commercial-Industrial/Fluorescent-Lighting/Batten-Fittings/Pop-Pack-Switch-Start-1-x-70W-Fluorescent-Batten-Pack-of-2

There are two in the pack, so wire them both up and you'll have some decent light, or just one at at time for when it's not so dark.

Yep, you just need a bit of mains cable and a couple of plugs.
