with my lpenum removal and gaskest and bits and pieces etc i was looking at the forum on smooth engine bays as i would ideally like to have alot of other stuff out of sight and showing pretty much just the plenum and cam covers.

im also looking into getting some skins but i was wondering if any of you knew what in the engine bay could be removed or relocated to make my engine bay as tidy as possible :)

i can see some of you have very nice smooth engine bays with little shown and wondered if you could advise on what you did for that result

thanks guys

Its a big job one i will be starting in the next few weeks, you can move the large fusbox under the passanger wing by extending all the wiring, Power steering pot can be moved to the rear of the enginebay its a long winded job but i agree it looks much better, you could also remove your egr and aiv system

your write up and links are cracking Martin, your rebuild site is very handy

WOW :tt1::tt1:

thanks for the good write ups!

i will be using these to carry out mine :)

cheers matey

Here is what I have done, to you give ideas :

removed :

AIV (solenoid, pipes)

EGR (actuator and pipes)

PRVR (solenoid and pipes)

Carbon Cannistor

Plenum Water Bypass (pipes)

Cruise Control (actuator, cable)

Hicas (solenoid, hydraulic pipes)

Boost Gauge Sensor (sensor, pipes)

Boost solenoids (solenoids, pipes)

Clutch bleed pipe (replaced with direct master to slave pipe)

Relocate :

PTU

Fuel Filter

PAS Resevoir

Battery (to boot)

Fuse Box - Not complete yet.

Edited by Yowser

oh and

Braided Fuel pipe (gets rid of unneeded extra Fuel pipeing and joints)

Another idea I have seen is to run the EFI harness loom that goes to the injectors and Coilpacks underneath the plenum.

i wish to do all of these except the battery as i can imagine sending that to the back of my SWB would be a right PITA.. not saying fuse box is really easy to relocate but atleast im staying the same area of the car :)

can you rewire battery to boot with existing cabling?

i gather moving fuse box to where my A/C use to be would require extra loom etc?

this is also what i wondered could be done as i would like to get them hidden but someone told me before that i dont want them there as they get too hot and would last a quarter of the life they did on top????

i hope not as i too would like to do this legrath

For the battery Im using a Small Lightweight Dry Cell Race battery, that fits behind one of the Rear boot panels (the one right behind passenger seat).

I've ran a 2gauge cable from the Existing Positive battery cable from the Engine bay to the new battery location under the carpet. The Ground is taken directly from the battery location.

I really want to relocate my fuse box to where the Battery tray area, but tis going to be a major PITA to do, still deciding. Moving it to the the Aircon area would be a lot easier.....I've not tried it but I heard it can be done with only 2 wires needed extending.

Yay! I moved my fuse box down near to where the compressor was as above, does not need extending and works for me, there is a write up I have seen that shows it being quite east to move it to area below the headlight I believe. Most just move it down behind the headlight and cover it with one of the many slam panels available.

I have also routed the EFI harmess and connectors under the plenum and fabricated my own engine bay skin that covers the battery and all the crap at the bulkhead.

sorry to bring this up but just noticed your post. DO you think the EFI harness will last under the plenum? i would still like to do this :)

and your pictures dont work :(

I have added heat shielding to all the wiring that goes under the upper plenum. Should be good for many years I feel. It suits me - but obviously if your not comfortable with the idea - then you should not do it ;-))

Pics have moved and are now here:

From above... (all looks messy - but has changed a lot since this pic.)

I have since waterproofed the area where the cables enter the box with liquid rubber and created a small splash cover.

I used thermo flex for heat shielding (google is your friend) and as for 'how much'? - completely depends upon your aspirations and aims. And the amount of time/money you want to spend Damien.

True. I've got write ups for fuse etc. Wondered about rear engine bay cover but worried about air flow. Also I want to get skins for engine bay. Do they cover most of the components? All the people I see with theirs on looks like everything is either covered or relocated.

I'm Hoping it covers as that means alot less relocation :p

No the engine skins from ZedCentre do not 'cover' anything - you still have to put everything back on top of the skins once the skins are fitted. Unless you have moved/deleted it that is ;-))

I am referring to the ones on the sides - not the rear one of course...

thats what i thought :)

well mine look horrible so was hoping they would be out of sight. especicially all the stuff on the drivers side.... was hoping like most of that can be removed but looks like they control things :(

i will see if i can also relocate ALL the stuff on the drivers side inner fender without too much re-wiring/plumbing

what do you think? can i see what your inner fenders look like?

(nosey)

this stuff here on the bottom left hand corner (apart from the steering pump) can it be removed? or is it located?

especially the lung tuberlar thing.

is that thing downt the bottom left removable? is it called a secondary clutch booster? hoping i can ditch these as the right hand side only needs a fuse box relocated where as the left hand side (looking from the front) has alot of ugly stuff)
