Another goal for me, 1st engine out

Well another day and another goal for me in my quest to know everything about my zeds!!

I`m lucky enough to have 2 scrappers to practice on, so then eventually i can do most tasks to fix my car.

So on Saturday in the pis*ing rain i once agian jacked the car up on axel stands and attempted to remove prop shaft, auto box and then the engine!!

For those who have a little mechanical knowhow i had a fuc*** nightmare! I rounded one of the 4 bolts that attaches the flywheel to the tourqe converter!! and it took me over 3 hours to get it off, i had to cut the bellhousing and then angle grind the bolt off :scared: luckily i have a goosed auto box so i can use the bellhousing from that one.

The engine came out effortlessly and i was very surprised how easy it was. i started at 10.30 am and eventually finished at about 4pm despite the set back, So i am made up that is another goal for me.

So next goal is to rebuild an engine :1eye:

good work matey. you will get quicker at it with practice. where did you get the crane from? when i rented one it was too short to reach engine from the front and i had to get it from the side of the car. propper nightmare. lol

The crane is my ex bosses, its been stood in his yard for 2 years and never been used in all that time, it was effortless with it

How long should it take for a pro to do prop, box and engine out??

should be able to get it done in around 3 to 4 hours mate. what are you doing with the tubs? i need some lol

grats by the way. its fun isnt it :)

Just put mine back in that was easy too. Well done on your 1st... hope it goes as well as mine.

Well done it took me like 3 days to get mine out as every bolt was a battle and one took me just over half a day to get out. Now you should practice doing all of the deletes on it. Taking it all apart was quite straight forward, for me but putting it all back together from just a block was quite challenging as everything was an upgrade and then doing all the deletes on top is confusing at times. But I could do it all again now a lot faster.

Its all fun though!

When you put it back dont forget the oil cooler hoses. I did and had to lift the engine up to get to them oh fun......

Well done mate, good feelin to accomplish a job like that. You can pull the engine without un doing the torque convertor bolts though.Just means you lose some tranny fluid thats all.It saves cutting the bellhousing up next time.

nice work matey

that yellow Z looks knackered now lol.

Oh Wow?? I would never have though of that!, so i would of needed to support the gearbox from underneath and the pull the engine forward away from the gearbox then?

Is that how a pro would do it?, or would they weld another bolt onto the bad head and get the bolt out? mind you a pro wouldnt round the head off a bolt would they??

Thanks Jimmer :winkiss:

You were right how you did it.Its best to leave the torque convertor in the box,but if youd known then yes the torque convertor would have just slid off the input shaft off the box.You neednt have spent three hours cutting the box up though when the bolt rounded off.The welded nut trick would have worked as you said or some sockets made by Irwin are great for removing damaged bolts.
