Why does my zed sound as though the wheel bearings are gone

Hi. Ive just bought my Zed. Love it. But over 40 mph, road noise sounds as though the wheel bearings are gone, or that I have studded tyes- but I dont. Just stripey tread pattern.

Brand new MOT too but garage can't find any faults. It scares me. Any clues? Anyone local to Enfield who cares to listen to it? Thanks David. Enfield. 020 8 3640004.

That will probably be the centre prop bearing or gearbox mount. As stella said, do you get vibration through the seat or trans tunnel.

yes- through the seat. Sounds nasty! Any suggestions who might check that out?

does it stay from 40mph up or disappear after about 50ish?

It certainly worries me. Does anybody know of any local service man near Enfield?

If its the prop bearing or gearbox mount, then nothing to worry about, ie not dangerous.

possibly the diff bearing goosed, do you feel it throught the seat??

Noisy drive. Thanks Baz- how do I get to the filler for the diff?

Thanks Groover re No concerns if only prop bearing or gearbox mount. But it sounds nasty. The grumbling of the noise noise seems proportional to the road speed. Any one local who wants to hear it?? David

It will do until its replaced lol.

Seriously, its a common fault, the gearbox mount as its aged will have sagged, the centre prop bearing if perished will cause the bad vibration at around 40 mph or heavy acceleration. Some are worse than others, but can be replaced. The grumbling noise will still be proportional to the road speed as the prop turns, the wheels turn.

You could check the oil level in the diff, if its run dry, it may have caused damage, which is causing the noise.

Thank you everyone for your guidance. I'll let you know If the rrrumble problem ever gets traced.

David.
