I always put V-power in my Z but the other day my local Shell had completely run dry of it. There's a BP up the road, so I put a tenner of Ultimate in the tank to tide me over (for a day!) until the V-Power was back. but oddly enough I found myself being careful with the boost today just because I had mainly 97 in the tank. am I just being over-cautious (running about 17.5psi) and is 97 pretty much ok to use with the majority of Zs?

i mainly use BP Ultimate to be honest as its right by my house and think its fine had no probs. I watched a episode of fifth gear though and they said V-power was the best for performance cars.

Tesco Super is 99 Octane, I think V power is now the same but when it was first introduced it was 98.

Tescos and sainsburys both us BP fuel. (see the little BP logo on the side of there white trucks)

The fuel all comes from the same refineries, depending on geographical location.

I used to work at BP refinery in Grangemouth and was amazed when I first saw all the different trucks in the tanker terminal. BP, Shell, Esso, Q8, Thames, Phillips etc.

It was around the time that Shell launched the disasterous "Formula Shell", when I asked how Formula Shell could come from the same tank as Esso etc, the guys told me that the Formula Shell "special Mix" was added after loading by the tanker driver!!

Its all going to depend on the sort of mapping the car has had - What fuel it was mapped on and how aggressive the mapping was. If mapped aggressively on high octane fuel to get the best possible performance out of the car, then its likely to have detonation issues with lower octane fuel compared to one thats has been mapped with a higher safety margin or mapped on lower octane fuel in the first place.

For regular (95 ron) and probably super unleaded (97ron)

But Shell V-power (99ron) is produced separately, and only from the Stanlow refinery in Cheshire and only to Shell V-power stations.
