Hello all,

As a japanese car fanatic, I felt it was time to indulge again. I've owned a MK1 MR2, MK2 Turbo MR2 and most recently an FTO Mivec and Mazda Eunos. I've now reached the golden age of cheap insurance and want to get myself a 300ZX TT.

As a Nissan employee, I regulary see these cars and have fallen for them. What I want to know is basically this: in your well informed opinion, would you start with an auto TT or find a manual car. I see that auto TTs are plentiful, (but after owning the FTO with the auto box I have developed a strong dislike for them).

I'm approaching the stage where I am looking to buy, and need an educated point into the right direction.

-Sir Charles

Well, I actually bought mrbusy's zed last night. I havent had chance to take my own pictures yet because the viscous coupling came snapped off the water pump. Great start haha.

I do have plans to sort out the following:

-Fit new water pump, re attach viscous coupling/fan

-Change ancillary belts at the same time

-Change centre bearing on prop shaft

-Re-paint or attach new front bumper as it has slight damage

-Remove and replace foam spoiler/sort out rust on tailgate

-Machine polish entire car

All the above by the end of April.

After all that is done ill concentrate on customisation such as new headunit, interior revisions such as nismo gear knob, re-leather the seats (although they are in above average condition).

Then after all that is done I MAY have a look at getting some more power out of it. But to be honest i'm more than happy with the power its putting out now and I like standard cars.

I actually work at a Nissan dealership but our prices for parts are scary for this car, so I shall be abusing the traders' section and i'll probably be buying my membership one day next week to this fine forum.

Hi Dean,

Shit, sorry to hear about the coupling going on the waterpump. I really had no idea it was on it's way out otherwise i would of said something to you. Hope you managed to get home okay buddy. I'll keep my eyes on the threads as id love to see the car again when all the bits that i never got round to sorting are all done. Hope you enjoy Zed ownership mate, always used to bring a big cheesy grin to my face whenever i took her out for a spin and im sure you'll be the same. Take care mate.

Kind regards

Lee

Its ok mate its just one of those things! Thankfully it happened 10mins from my dealership so i limped there. The water pump still works but obviously need a new one now otherwise no fan! Still delighted with the car and both you and your mate were a pleasure to deal with.

Glad to hear it only happened a few mins away from home. I forgot to mention to you, i had been offered a complete prop from a long wheel base with a "nearly new" center bearing for £45+postage from a guy on ebay. I know the prop shaft is different but i think the bearing is the same (maybe someone on here can confirm??). I'll see if i can find the guys email address and forward it on to you buddy.

Well the car went into the workshop today and the whole front end stripped down. Changing water pump, hoses going to the pump and thermostat along with aux belts. I aim to take more clear pics of my progress with the car but this is how it looks before I have done anything to it:

Sorry about the quality, iphone camera.

I have to be fair, I've joined a few owners forums in the past (MR2 owners club, Corrado, FTO et al) and haven't had so much as a decent response - let alone an informed one. You seem like a cracking bunch of people. :)

I am now a Z owner :) , will post more details tomorrow!

Welcome to the club Dean - we're not a bad bunch really!!

And good luck with your new purchase mate!

Richard:biggrin:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Very nice mate.

Really like those alloys you have there:thumbup1:
