i have been playing since christmas and enjoying it but i'm getting annoyed with the sound of my guitar or amp my. guitar is a strat copy thing with a rear humbucker and my amp is a line 6 spider IV. i have been having lessons to learn about music and also working off tabs at home and utube lessons, i have been learning black sabbeth, metalica and nirvana but i can do it but it doesn't sound anything like it (not cause im playing it wrong). i have messed with all my settings on my amp and nothing this is how i want my guitar to sound.

I am by now means an expert on this but what I found until I got to frustrated with it was 1. effects pedals, to get anywhere near the sound of any of those bands require a number of pedals or a multi effects simulater. 2. alot of the songs use a different guitar tuning i.e. drop D which gives a completely different sound...

 

The people I do know that play in bands etc. all said when I started learning that I was aiming to high with things like mettalica and start with easier tunes....

 

I'm sure that there are plenty more people on here that can comment more sensibly on this....

Yep most bands transpose music, so say you normally play a D and they transpose it by 2, you would then be playing a C (D C# C) if you get what i mean, have a look up the top of the Score it normally tells you, also do you use Guitar Pro? Do you mean you are after the distortion sound or the chorus clean sound.

 

You can get an natural overdrive from your amp by turning the post gain up full and the pre gain right down. It overdrives the preamp to give an overdrive, distorted sound.

 

If you want the sustain and distortion with delays, you will need a multi effects unit. You can get some cheap multieffects, now like the zoom, boss units etc.

 

I use a Boss GT6 have had it for years, has everything but the kitchen sink, effects wise that you could ever need.

thanks guys. i use ultimate guitar for tabs, my amp comes with drive button and 4 pre sets clean, crunch, metal and insane but it becomes a noise. im not really able to get a setting i like and as for the sound mine just sounds so tinny no really umph. i was learning the solo to paranoid by black sabbrth and i can do it but it doesn't sound the same, like when im bending on the 15 fret, low E my guitar just sounds like a really high pitched noise

ok i have had a enough and i think its down to my amp is crap my guitar just doesn't sound electric enough. so can you recommend a good amd that will give good sound and also give a heavy metal sound too

I have a marshall amp 15 watt, sounds very nice, electric guitar is a squire strat,that cost me £400 in total.If you look at most well known musicians they spend thousands if not hundreds of thousands on kit, and trying to get the exact sound as these bands is almost impossible.

Well i have always wanted a Brian may red special,but £500 for a guitar i cant justify.Down the road from me there is a bloke who makes guitars for a living, i have asked him if he could do a rough copy of the red special,and he can for about £200, that is with burns pick ups and being able to switch into series on pick ups. :rockon:
